One other option is to add hood vents and possibly side fender vents. But I agree that putting a sheet like that across the grill area is blocking the required air flow through the radiator.
This is complete nonsense. Air flow across the RADIATOR cools the engine. Airflow under the hood is meaningless.

It looks like it’s “redruming” your radiator…
Technically, I think it is gniredrum the radiator.

It is probably acceptable if temps are freezing, but anything over freezing, that grill insert is causing an overheating condition.
