I am replacing the tires on my 2018 JLU Rubicon at going-on 49K miles. Should I replace the tire pressure sensors at the same time? Or wait?
Thanks.

If they are working fine, you don’t need to.

Those things used to be cheap. They are not any more.

Yeah… about that… ?
Some tire shops will tell you that you should replace them with new ones. They’ll tell you they can get “worn out” or that the “old ones may not get seated correctly” in the new tires. Riiiight…. This is usually a money grab. If they work fine on your current treads, then there shouldn’t be an issue as long as they don’t break them when they take them out and put them in the new ones.

TPMS wheel sensors from Denso go over ten years, don't know what Stellantis sources or how long.
May have to wait a few years to see what the mean failure is.

What sucks is if they go down right after you buy new tires, then you are up for a dismount, install, remount and balance that you just paid for.

No, that's when you get to finally dust off the hi-lift jack that has never used to break the bead on the tires and swap out the sensor yourself :giggle:

Yeap, both Quadratec and Extreme Terrain tried that $#!+ on me. I didn't fall for it. Never had any problems before or after wheel/tire swapps, using the same sensors.

Or turn them off with a tazer. Problem solved!

Most TPMS sensors last over 6 years, so you should be good for at least a few more years.

They only TPMS item you'll want to have for the installation is the valve rebuild kit, know as "rebuild kits". We include TPMS rebuild kits with installation at no additional cost.

I like to replace the rubber stems when putting new tires on, but keep the sensors. I prefer the OEM stems, since I had a bad batch of chinese rubber stems that all 4 failed within a short time. The sensors are usually attached to the stem with a screw.

For reference; I have 95,000 miles/8 years/3rd set of tires on my truck's original TPMS sensors. One just went down.

That will depend on the age of the original sensors. As mentioned, they have a finite lifespan. It will also depend on whether or not you want, or require, a functioning TPMS display on your dashboard.

Proactively replacing the sensors at X years (you choose the interval), concurrent with new tire installation, may save you $$ later on. Said differently: if you decide to leave the original sensors in situ and they later fail when the tires have plenty of treadlife remaining, the replacement expense could be comparatively costly.

It's more about time than mileage.
There is a lithium battery in each one.

I got my last set for my truck off Amazon.
A fraction of the locals price. I paid $26/each so they have went down...
