Tree huggers can kiss my spare tire. As they all go EV, and the power grid craps out, and gas prices have come down like crazy due to lack of demand, I'll be laughing as I stomp on the loud pedal while they're calling the utility company for power.
If the power grid craps out, how are you going to pump gas into that 13MPG rig? :D

The changes in what gets built and sold can be assigned to Congress and the manufacturers. Congress decides what's ok for the country (EPA just enforces what Congress orders), and manufacturers will build whatever makes money within those laws. Not a lot of tree-huggers in either of those places currently.

So, you can blame it on people in this country voting...either at the ballot box or the dealership. If the folks who prefer ICE and big noise end up in the minority at either or both places, well, that's how the system works here. The people who hated seat belt laws lost. The people who wanted seat belts connected to ignitions lost.

Will EVs actuallly work like the people who buy them think? We'll see, right? Maybe the people buying them are dumb. If EVs can't compete, that'll take care of that eventually, just as gasoline beat out steam cars.

I have nothing against EVs per se - I just don't like anyone telling me what I can and can't buy. Here in California, our illustrious government is passing a law that ICE cars can't be sold anymore. That's BS, but the "tree huggers" are rejoicing. Then there's this insane movement about where people are going around and slashing the tires of SUVs just because they're "bad and evil". If I could move out of this state and go someplace like-minded, I would. But, I'm stuck here and I'll just go on being old and grumpy :) I won't even go into my ragey opinion about gas powered grounds maintenance tools being outlawed. This state has gone looney and hopefully the rest of the Country doesn't follow suit.

One of the "good" things about California is that we're very accustomed to going without power for extended periods of time. Lots of Tesla owners were SOL when they couldn't charge up. But, all the gas stations had backup power, so filling up wasn't an issue.

I'm sure the grid issues will be sorted out eventually. Where the energy comes from to generate electricity is a question mark. Reservoirs drying up, hydro power being cut back, fossil fuels and nuclear being demonized.... Solar and wind are options, but still not efficient enough to get the job done - it helps, but it is just one piece of a very complicated puzzle.

If you live in the SF Bay area, your loud pedal better be attached to a Mercury Marine. :)

Hahaha! Even a Mercury Marine would cause a riot. All the sailboats, paddleboarders, and windsurfers would probably throw poo at us.

I should send that memo to Dodge.... Viper parts are impossible to get these days - and the car went out of production in 2017. Lots of pissed off owners who have something as minor as a door latch or a window regulator that they have been waiting on for six months. Some aftermarket companies will come to the rescue eventually.
My V10 PU came close to becoming junk due to an Obsolete Ignition Control Module. No aftermarket, mine wasn’t repairable, about 3 months of searching to find one in an out of state junk yard due to rarity. Very Worrisome, apparently insufficient numbers produced to interest the aftermarket.

I'm really hoping that the aftermarket comes to the rescue. The limited production cars (like the Viper and the Ram V10) have a ton of specialized parts that just can't be found. I have an eight year extended warranty, and it's basically useless. If something goes wrong, I have to leave the car with the dealership for six months. What's ironic is that the original Vipers used a ton of off the shelf parts to keep the development cost down. If something goes wrong, one of the experts will find a Neon or Durango part that is identical other than the part number. Fortunately, there is a very active club with a lot of specialized aftermarket developers. That said, you crunch the hood, and the car is totaled....

What we know for a fact is now we can order 2023 392s with the XR package. We now know that 2023 is bringing back the Hellcat Durango.
We know V8 Challenger production is extended till December 2023.
We know Hellcat TRX production has been extended to 2024.
Lots of V-8’s to go around. We’ll see what happens next when Jeep/Dodge actually tells us. Until then it’s all rumor and BS.

I can't be the only one who thinks a large displacement inboard motor sounds terrific. Hence the phrase "burbles like a motor launch". Low...menacing...loping idle.

I was at Tahoe with my supercharged 454 Sanger when down the pier was a roar that overwhelmed it. It was the “Thunderbird” , Bill Harrah’s 40’s or 50’s wooden cruiser powered by twin Allisons. What a treat for me ?

I have a friend up in Lake Tahoe that somehow managed to shoehorn a Viper V10 engine into a Chris Craft. The thing looks beautiful - vintage wood and interior. Then when he fires it up, it's just darned scary. He says he's hit 80 knots across the lake on a smooth day. I dunno if I'd do that - that is a deep lake, and if you hit a sneaker wave at that speed, bad things will happen.

Those old wooden boats are floating Art!!! I went to Tahoe for “wooden boat week” several times . It was one of those that I got to see the”Thunderbird” up close. Stunning!! The pinnacle of wooden boats!! He was lucky they came with a flathead 6 (the older ones anyway) or length would have been a problem, my cousin replaced his with a SB Chevy. Width was a bit tight but length was a non issue.
