It looks like a Dakota died a week ago and the outgassing has caused the body to bloat...

If the back seat has room for people taller than 5’, then it’ll be a contender, but I doubt it does. All the other midsize trucks have miserable back seats. Families don’t buy them because there is no room for a car seat in the back, without the front seat having to be uncomfortably forward.

But the real story here is that Ram missed the opportunity to build a no nonsense, work oriented, SFA midsize truck. If it had separate, replaceable bumpers, a more utility oriented bed, a somewhat plain interior, and was easily serviceable, fleets, craftsmen, and practical minded people would be strongly drawn to them. Instead it looks like a near luxury SUV/pickup hybrid.

The market is saturated with these, Ram should have went the utility oriented route, rather than the pretend luxury route. This will be another swing and a miss for Stellantis.

This is probably because they have people who don’t understand the US market making decisions.

Form over function.

Just like when GM was taken out of bankruptcy during the Obummer years. Part of the agreement was administrators (who know nothing about the auto market) demanding GM make full size trucks with a crappy little 6 banger that couldn’t get out of its own way.

An instant sales disaster.

Well- except Kuniskis is in charge of Ram again and he gets it. Not only is the V8 back, but a 650 hp SC sport truck has been announced.
ā€œOnlyā€ starting at $89,995 - 4WD $4045

Hey- GM ā€œupgradedā€ it’s PU’s to a standard, uh 4 banger, C’mon- progress šŸ™ƒ

GM fullsizes had V8's through those years and continue to have V8's in full-size pickups, and they even put the 5.3 V8 in their midsize Colorado after the bankruptcy. The 6-cylinder engine has also been pervasive in GM's full-size lineup since the beginning of time. What are you smoking?

GM has always, until the recent 4 cylinder, offered a six cylinder as the base engine in full size trucks. Inline 6 until ā€˜84 or so, then the 4.3 V6 after that. Even extended cab trucks came with them for a base engine.
