No, you're not cursed, but it sure can seem that way. Just remember, sometimes you're the bug & sometimes you're the windshield.

But, McDonald's is paying $21 an hour! Holy fudge, no wonder we can't keep Firefighter/Paramedics. And I thought it was the 24 hour shifts of bad calls after bad calls, mandatory OT because we're short staffed, COVID crap, other contagious diseases much worse than you know what, violent scenes that the short staffed Police can't control & their damned when they do, EDs that are majorly crowded with overwhelmed staff dealing with shortages of their own.

Oh well, slinging burgers, for more money than Firefighters, Paramedics, Police Officers, & even some ED staff make. I can't fault those that are getting it. They should be grateful & therefore do great work.

Sorry, didn't mean to derail your thread with my rant, I digress as most of us that do these jobs, do so because we LOVE IT!

I have noticed it is difficult for companies to get competent employees now. It seems like companies have to take who they can get, so mistakes are made due to inexperienced employees. It just the way it is right now. Maybe if companies paid better wages, they could attract higher quality people.

I run my own business and the last four months have been a nightmare when it comes to hiring. In 20+ years I have never had staffing issues like these. I have gone through eight trainees trying to fill two positions - and am on my 9th and 10th this week.
They come in full of enthusiasm, and after two/three weeks, realize that it's actual 'work' and quit.
It costs money to train, and when I hear excuses like 'it's just too stressful' -or any dislike of the job they were told about in advance- it makes me tear my hair out.
All my current employees have been with me for at least 2 years - most for more than five. So it's not the job - it's the workforce.
I'd love to pay them more, but I'm under government contracts that only renew every five years. The revenue is set, as is the company's overhead. I couldn't negotiate a higher wage anyhow as it is set in stone by the DOL and non-negotiable.

Shoot, the organization we work with has been forced to lower their own longtime standards. Up until 3 months ago they required any OTR driver to have a minimum of five years experience - now they are recruiting drivers straight from trucking school.
The NY Times had a great article about the labor issues and it's coming down to a race between keeping your business running versus people running out of the savings they amassed from the stimulus checks and increased unemployment wages.

No worries about this. We need more money in the budget for all these essential professions. Last years hero’s this years lay offs. I don’t get it.

It seems like there is always something that doesn’t go right for me. First with the shop that did the lift pinched the Evap wiring in the rear passenger shock bolt. I had to find there mistake. A big thanks to this forum as I really appreciate all your help with this.

After driving around on my tiny tires for a few months to make sure there were no more problems. I got tires ordered from a big chain because they were the only place that could get 285/75 r17 tires. They got them in a week later and I had an appointment to get them on yesterday. As they were installing they called me and said one of the 5 tires was actually for 18 rims so they would get one coming on Monday. Not the end of the world except I drove 50 minutes to Omaha for this. The real problem was when I got the Jeep back I checked everything and the tires on the Jeep were 285/70 r17!!!!

They have the right tires in the warehouse and will have them on Monday but super bummed still and I’m wondering if I’m cursed??
Not cursed, just bad luck and some random incompetent people in the supply chain. I ordered a set of wheels and 2 of the 4 were the incorrect backspacing, they were put in the wrong box. They made it right though. Stuff happens. It does suck to have to drive so far to get them installed, I had a 40 minute commute for mine as well.

The last time I commuted and had a cheap little Mini Cooper S for that commute. I didn't mind paying $100ish for oil change and tire rotation only because I didn't want to do it. But for that price, my car came back detailed and had a video inspection. I would happily pay for that service at a Jeep dealer... Instead I get dummies who overfill oil and then treat you like crap when you leave a bad survey.
My present vehicle is a VW Tiguan, and it's cheaper to get an oil change there than any other place... For $70 they do full synthetic and wash the car. Not only that, they know VW takes a special formula oil and they know how to work on a German car. Ive had to use quick lube places a couple of times, and one place unscrewed the skid plate... which was unnecessary, and then didn't put in all the screws. Another place used the wrong kind of oil. And every quick lube place is at least $85. I do go to independant shops for everything else, but VW does have the best oil changes.

If you're ready to pay $10 for a burger, then these "entry" level jobs meant to provide people a way into the workforce, then wages can increase to this level. Some jobs are worth only so much, soon these unskilled, new to the work force employees

It is normal to lose a bit of confidence in your ride when multiple things go wrong (whether they are the fault of the vehicle or not). Just ride it out, things will be fine.

Hey, you have to go back anyway, so might as well do the drive on their tires and with a smaller diameter for mpg! Silver lining. Lol. But I’m sorry to hear about the waste of time.

Unfortunately, these days you need to repeat everything 3 times and personally verify along the way.

I get tires frequently between the Jeep and a track car and I'm the go to person to get tires for the whole family.

I got to the point of verifying everything for an order by part number, tire sizes, etc. When I bring the vehicle in to have tires mounted, I insist on personally checking the tires prior to them starting to mount them, Then again after mounting before leaving (check mounted on the right wheels in case they are staggered - yep they have mounted wide rear tires on narrow front rims on more than one occasion), check white wall lettering in, check rotational direction if applicable, etc. It is all second nature now.



OP. If it makes you feel better, when I bought my JLUR, the dealer registered the wrong vehicle under my name (a Grand Cherokee at that) that had a somewhat similar VIN (not even that close). Luckily I double checked and saw the error, or I would risk being stopped by the cops with an unregistered vehicle.

Wow that’s a crazy mistake. The one think I’m kicking myself about was that I almost called before leaving the house to double check with them. Oh well I will be before going back.

x100! I don't let anyone do anything on any of my vehicles that I can DIY, just not worth my time to have to check every single f'n thing they do~
from torque settings, fluid levels, cleanliness of the job performed, missing fasteners, other items damaged during a repair, and that's just a partial list :(
