This post is really just for awareness. I purchased my 23 JLURD farout edition in Mar 23. It all started at about 700 miles in. Random/intermittent lights on the dash ( Anti-skid,stability control, service 4wd, CEL) I’ve called my dealer and was told that unless the lights are staying on and codes can be pulled it would difficult to repair. I know that was kinda a BS answer but was expected after reading multiple experiences on this forum. I decided to wait until a light would hopefully stay on for longer than a minute before I scheduled an appointment. I also have an Idash and there are no stored codes. Truly my biggest concern was not being able to use 4wd if the the service 4wd light came on but as I understand if you engage 4wd and disconnect the FAD there’s no other way for the 4wd to not work unless manually disengaged. Now that the temperature has dropped I’ve had to jump start if it’s sat more than about 3-4 days. Today when I had to jumpstart it the radio display would not come on until I disconnected the battery for about 20 minutes after getting it running. I know it’s probably the aux battery causing all of my issues but just wanted to voice my frustration on a Jeep with 8K miles on it at this point.
I have a few mods done (Tazer, Banks Derringer, 4.5” lift and 37’s) that have kept me from running to the dealer to be told my radio doesn’t work because of the lift kit or something. I’m going to upgrade my main battery to an Odyssey and delete the aux. I hope this solves my issues. Although I haven’t given Jeep a chance to see if JEEP CARE’s but I think I already know the answer based on multiple posts here. This forum has truly been one of the best sources of information while trying to figure out my next move.
I am also aware that a lot of people sometimes join forums to voice their grievances but that’s truly not the case here. I joined here when I purchased my Jeep and I really do love it and want it to work despite the setbacks. I will update after I get the new battery in and aux battery delete done.
Update… In an attempt to help other forum members with similar issues I decided to make as few changes as possible and monitor the outcome. Instead of doing any battery upgrades I decided to simply eliminate the Aux battery and keep the original main battery. I didn’t mess with any fuses and just simply ran the negative and positive cables from the aux and reattached them to the positive and negative terminals on the main battery. After about 400 miles of no lights I finally got a few random warning lights today that went out after about 20 seconds. I had both seat heaters on, the heat on high, headlights on, fog lights on, steering wheel heat on, and the radio on. I didn’t see any lights the rest of the trip. Maybe it’s already been discussed but guessing that the warning lights are associated with a voltage drop below a certain threshold. I think it’s magnified significantly while running the aux battery especially when the aux is failing. Not sure I understand the purpose of the aux battery. Is it there to provide power to the PCM, etc. when the main is providing the cranking amps to the starter?
