This post is really just for awareness. I purchased my 23 JLURD farout edition in Mar 23. It all started at about 700 miles in. Random/intermittent lights on the dash ( Anti-skid,stability control, service 4wd, CEL) I’ve called my dealer and was told that unless the lights are staying on and codes can be pulled it would difficult to repair. I know that was kinda a BS answer but was expected after reading multiple experiences on this forum. I decided to wait until a light would hopefully stay on for longer than a minute before I scheduled an appointment. I also have an Idash and there are no stored codes. Truly my biggest concern was not being able to use 4wd if the the service 4wd light came on but as I understand if you engage 4wd and disconnect the FAD there’s no other way for the 4wd to not work unless manually disengaged. Now that the temperature has dropped I’ve had to jump start if it’s sat more than about 3-4 days. Today when I had to jumpstart it the radio display would not come on until I disconnected the battery for about 20 minutes after getting it running. I know it’s probably the aux battery causing all of my issues but just wanted to voice my frustration on a Jeep with 8K miles on it at this point.
I have a few mods done (Tazer, Banks Derringer, 4.5” lift and 37’s) that have kept me from running to the dealer to be told my radio doesn’t work because of the lift kit or something. I’m going to upgrade my main battery to an Odyssey and delete the aux. I hope this solves my issues. Although I haven’t given Jeep a chance to see if JEEP CARE’s but I think I already know the answer based on multiple posts here. This forum has truly been one of the best sources of information while trying to figure out my next move.
I am also aware that a lot of people sometimes join forums to voice their grievances but that’s truly not the case here. I joined here when I purchased my Jeep and I really do love it and want it to work despite the setbacks. I will update after I get the new battery in and aux battery delete done.

Update… In an attempt to help other forum members with similar issues I decided to make as few changes as possible and monitor the outcome. Instead of doing any battery upgrades I decided to simply eliminate the Aux battery and keep the original main battery. I didn’t mess with any fuses and just simply ran the negative and positive cables from the aux and reattached them to the positive and negative terminals on the main battery. After about 400 miles of no lights I finally got a few random warning lights today that went out after about 20 seconds. I had both seat heaters on, the heat on high, headlights on, fog lights on, steering wheel heat on, and the radio on. I didn’t see any lights the rest of the trip. Maybe it’s already been discussed but guessing that the warning lights are associated with a voltage drop below a certain threshold. I think it’s magnified significantly while running the aux battery especially when the aux is failing. Not sure I understand the purpose of the aux battery. Is it there to provide power to the PCM, etc. when the main is providing the cranking amps to the starter?

Sucks man…
Wonder if it sat for a while waiting for the HPFP to be replaced before they could sell it.

Something else worth looking at is the wiring bundle that runs up the exterior of the passenger footwell. It’s supposed to be under a heat shield but there have been a few where it wasn’t. On those the wires melt on the exhaust.

Good luck

It hasn’t had the HPFP done yet. I probably got it right before they stopped selling them. I am kinda excited to delete the aux battery and the latest string of events has persuaded me to spend the money and time to make it right in the driveway and not on the trail.

Removing the aux battery will save you further frustration. Been exactly where you are now. Do not need a Odyssey. Running flawlessly with my stock battery. IMO do not go to the dealership. There's nothing they could do ( been there before had a flat bedded to the dealership complete waste of time) They will not confess, nor can they, to the auxiliary battery being the issue. So just take it into your own hands remove auxiliary battery and go back to enjoying your Wrangler. When you realize all those issues have vanished as a result of removing the auxiliary battery you will mhave a huge sense of relief and a lot of confidence in your Wrangler again.

Best of luck to you

I'm considering deleting my aux battery, although it hasn't been troublesome. Is there a particularly helpful DIY thread on the forum?

While it could be your batteries, with the problem starting @ 700 miles and the vehicle being only 9 months old - doubtful. Separate and load test your batteries before anything else - it could be a bad ground or bad wire harness connection. Check and make sure all fuses are seated.

Mine was delivered with fuses coming out from the factory.

If possible I have learned to go immediately and get the code pulled when I get a light. Last time after they pulled the code it went out before leaving the dealership, remained intermittent, and was out for my repair appointment.

I’ve got a ‘23 Farout Edition and the only issues so far are as follows:
1. Cracked windshield (common issue with all wranglers)
2. HPFP (what 3.0D doesn’t have this issue?)
3. Rock chips on door hinges (this sucks but it’s a common issue)
4. Leather seat cushions have permanent ass prints in them (don’t know how normal this is at 8k miles)

I looked at a used diesel gladiator last night. The guy was talking about it being in the shop because of intermittent lights coming on the dash. He was also having issues with a no start condition randomly. After about a week in the shop, the techs diagnosed it as bad batteries. This happened with only 5000kms on it. I looked at it last night and it currently has 5800kms on it. After the battery change, he said it’s been golden since.

From another diesel owner. And above comments. The aux battery ESS is all BSS ! Ya feel me ? The only reason I haven’t deleted the aux battery is because last week when it was at the dealer for the pump. They replaced it under warranty. I told them. Whatever. Thanks. But no thanks. I’ll wait a few month before the “aux no avail” pops up. Then delete. !! Don’t get upset over what they claim or shu people away. I’m sure you know your cars. Do what you need to do ! And enjoy it ! Peace ✌

yall are making me nervous. I just bought my '23 JLURD FarOut in October. Ive got 2000mi on it in 2 months. I do have some questions though.

1: What is HPFP?
2: How difficult is it to delete the aux battery?
3: Once deleted, does that completely disable the ESS? I hate that system.
4: If yes to disabling ESS, can you use the switch for something else? lights maybe? :D

Thanks
