Starting a new thread because this has come up a few times.
For my JL, we found if you lean the seat forward with the shoulder latch, but don't slide it forward the whole way, you can set it back up from another location along the track. However, if you slide it forward the whole way, it becomes locked in the forward leaning position and cannot be set upright until it has gone back as far as it can go. If you slam it back and bring It forward quickly, you can hold the bottom and set the back upright from another location.
The mechanics did replace a couple of parts recently which seemed to make no difference to the operation of my seats. They automatically performed it (TSB: 23-088-23) when I got one of my free oil changes through the dealership

Is this normal operation? I can try to get my kids to stop sliding the seat all the way forward, but that's probably a lot to ask. Maybe I can figure out exactly how far we can push it forward before it locks and put some type of stopper on the tracks there

If you don't slide it forward how do you safely get in the back seat? If the top is off they can climb the tire and jump in without ever touching the front seat.

I'm honestly afraid to check, but if I'm remembering correctly, the seatback for both of mine will not go back up until the bottom is slid the entire way back again. That's with only using the upper latch and I think it behaves a bit differently if you start pulling the lower strap during the process. Afaik, you're only supposed to use the latch to release the mechanism, then fold the seatback down as your pushing the entire unit forward the whole way without touching the strap at all during the process.

I spent most of my childhood climbing into the back of 2-door vehicles, but I really don't think these seats would last with the same constant use. They just seem really fragile and poorly designed imo.

My 2023 (Dec 2022 build) does not work that way and lets me adjust the seat back regardless of where on the track the seat is, but once the seat back is adjusted it no longer slides forward or back on the track unless I adjust it under the front of the seat.

it looks like that TSB you linked to is showing that after the TSB is performed the seat needs to go all the way back

"NOTE: The replacement fore/aft seat position return device “memory stone” will return the seat to the full rear position when returning from easy entry. Once replacement has been performed, the seat will no longer return to a customer selected fore/aft position; it will return to the full rear position and require manual repositioning if needed."

Looks like now it is the standard operation, I guess your seats were already operating that way before you had the TSB done as well.

Yes, that is normal. What is not normal is that IF the "memory stone" was working correctly it would only have to slide back to the original set postion.

Okay. So maybe the "other ways" are anomalies. We'll just keep slamming the seats into the rear passengers' legs.

Fwiw - that replacement part is supposed to prevent the "locked folded forward seat" problem people have been having

I've struggled a little moving my seat just to lean it forward to grab something out of the back. Although a tad heavy my 2005 TJ seat worked flawlessly. My gosh they could have used the same mechanism.
