Yep. If you do a frame-by-frame in the second video you can see more than one projectile come from the opposite lane before the big one hit you. Maybe the vehicle closest to you on the opposite side drifted a bit onto the shoulder and kicked them up...

My windshield was cracked on the way home from the dealer; while at a complete stop. I was in a construction zone and a rock was kicked up by a dump truck that nailed me in the lower passenger side. It took weeks to get fixed because I had to prove that the jeep was added to the policy prior to the crank.

Yesterday, I got hit by a something. This thing seriously looked like it dropped from the sky. (I don't think it's the bug which makes a brief appearance before the damage in one of the videos.)
After looking at this a lot closer, either you got dinged by a damn meteorite or somebody launched this rock from miles away at an unusually high trajectory.

Right away, I see the bug you mentioned for a few frames, then from above the clouds you can faintly see the second object coming in from very far away and then bouncing off something and then shooting back up into the air. Almost looks like it bounces off the road right in front of you or maybe your bumper. Could be the window, but the angle and the way it bounces up so far in front of your windshield doesn't make sense.

I did an overlay of 23 frames and yeah, that's just fucking weird. No idea how it could've came from another vehicle (insert Giorgio Tsoukalos 'aliens' meme ?)

So weird! That's as far as I could track it, too.
It is a dash cam -- even though I'm pretty happy with the resolution, before the object is seen, it could have been been launched from the ground (or higher in the sky) but not visible to the camera. I would have been back farther, and so would the object - in the other direction - if it was on a forward trajectory.
I'm also wondering if it could have been falling straight down, not on a forward path. Which does enhance the alien theory...

Have had a broken lug complete with lug nut come almost all the way through the windshield on a work truck once. No one ahead of me for miles, was about 3 heartbeats after meeting a pickup truck pulling a trailer going opposite direction. I work in the oil and gas industry in west Texas, see stuff come off vehicles all the time. Have been behind trucks that a rock or something will come off hit the pavement and bounce 20 or 30 feet in the air going the 70 or 80 mph the vehicle it come off of was traveling. This could explain the high trajectory seen on the video as its coming your way.

Just my $0.2

I had sorta been one of those ppl who think everyone getting smacked by rocks must be following big trucks too closely while flying down a highway. (My opinion changed while reading these forums a while ago.)

Even though it doesn't matter, I'm very curious as to what hit me, and where it originated. Anyone want to make an educated guess based on these videos?
My best guess right now is it was from under the tire of a vehicle in the opposing lane. ?‍♀

Fwiw, it looks like it hit dead center at the bottom edge of the glass:

Well sure its a ½ inch Titanium fastener from a UFO, shame it did not get stuck in your grill, be worth a lot of $$$.

Had the same scenario happen to me with my TJ....rock came from the opposite direction lanes of traffic and hit right on the bottom edge of the windshield. The rock cleared the separation barrier and 'smack'; was very surprised that it came from the other side......when I caught a rock with my JLUR windshield last year it was from a rock truck on the interstate going in the same direction; heavy traffic and unfortunately I couldn't get over to another lane so I wouldn't be behind them.

Frame by frame, like @Ratbert mentioned, you can see one miss you to the left. The one that hit you can from a high angle.

Most hit me from oncoming traffic. But the last hit we got was on the Wagoneer, it came of an 18 wheeler car hauler we were passing on the interstate.

Shit happens and there’s nothing you can do to prevent damage in certain circumstances other than not drive. Anyone here who keeps their vehicle several years and actually uses it in the real world will have rock chips, door dings, small scratches etc.

I sort of like the look of the cracks, but I've been told (and told and told) they "aren't safe." They probably weren't safe. But they also weren't distracting, and I liked the "personality" they added. In any case, the windshield is being replaced today.

There were additional rocks to the left just before that one got you.

Note that I've been told in other topics that I need to learn how to drive if this happens. Thanks for providing evidence that shows that it's not always the driver's fault.
Right!? I remember that thread. I also know that the stock BFG ATs have flung rocks forward and I had one pop up and get my windshield.

I find that I get a far high number of rock chips on highways with a concrete barrier, vs a grass median. A lot of debris gets wind driven against those barriers, When someone gets too far to the left, it kicks a bunch of it up or when a big ruck is next to one, it's a constant swirl of debris behind it, that also crosses to the other side. It's just one more reason to stay out of the left lane unless passing.

Replacing a Jeep windshield is part of regular maintenance.

Had a fatality accident claim where a drive shaft snapped and a bolt or part of the ujoint flew off through a windshield of a vehicle going the opposite direction. Hit the guy in the forehead, instantly killed. Both vehicles were highway speeds (~70mph)

one of the craziest examples of final destination or just wrong place wrong time, he did nothing wrong. People blaming drivers is short sighted unless you saw the entirety of the circumstance. Kind of like accidents that occur on Kenosha pass, lots of Monday morning quarterbacks.

Years ago, I saw an axle/wheel come off a pickup truck on the highway. The assembly started to bounce like crazy when the axle shaft cleared the right side of the housing. it bounced 2 or 3 times twirling wildly each time, then it went shaft first into the radiator of a car between me and that pickup. It was relatively heavy traffic moving at highway speeds. All I could do was slow way down. If the shaft would have went through w windshield, someone would have died.

Oddly the truck was going into a sweeping right curve and it didn't fall due to the weight transfer. I stopped, but the truck probably got 1/2 mile down the road before the driver realized what happened. Make you wonder how long the axle was broken before it came out. That curve was just enough to coax the shaft out of the housing.
