Did you bring in 12v from the 7 pin to charge Jeep battery while towing?

If so where did you tap it?

I just go my mopar harness in today. Still waiting for the damn jeep. Sitting in Utah currently.

In the harness section that gets installed in front of the vehicle there is a blue wire that brings 12 volts DC to the engine compartment. I haven’t yet bought a DC to DC charger yet, but when I do the POS+ will attach on the blue wire. Looks like a #12 or #10 gauge. I’ll probably purchase the RVi DC to DC charger this week.

I was looking at the RVi charger as well.

When you get it hooked up, if you could post any photos on what you did that would be sweet.

I will also be using the RViBrake3, no need to install a brake controller in the motorhome.

RVi DC to DC charger installed pulling power from the blue wire that I mentioned earlier. velcro’d to the top of the fuse box. Simple install, fused positive with ground to battery terminals and rv connection the same Positive and negative coming from the Mopar flat tow wiring harness.

I also installed the dash 12 volt power adapter Power Port Kit JL18CT12VP from www.CoolTechLLC.com. This kit, which is just a small electrical bypass harness that gives 12 volt power continuously to the dash 12 volt power port, this way I can power my RVi3 towed braking system. I will be conducting a test tow on Saturday morning.

Lots of options. I tow my JLR behind my class C RV. I went with the Blue Ox tow bar, the Demco Stay and Play Duo braking system. Not cheap. Planned to do it myself but found a professional installer. So glad I did. Works flawless, permanent install, progressive braking, and everything hidden behind firewall and brake pedal. Super clean install. Nothing to do but plug in to your outlet on your RV and front bumper.

I spent about $500 to $600 on installation. There is an optional wireless indicator that you set on your RV dash that confirms the Jeep is braking. Gives you peace of mind.

Good luck.

The RVi3 also has a dash indicator that also shows towed braking power along with towed battery voltage. All of the mfg towed braking devices are expensive, no doubt.

I went with NSA. Super simple, mechanical braking, TL-1000 LED taillights. No diodes to install. No power used from the jeep, so no charge line. No splicing into the JL taillight wiring. No brake buddy type setup. No electrical braking, simple mechanical. Also included a light on the dash of the RV (if you want it)

Super easy to install, I did it all myself. Hookup for lights, one cord from the front of the jeep to the RV.

I love it. 2 to 3 minutes to hookup or unhook everything.

I used a blue ox tow bar.

2024 Willys....Roadmaster wiring harness for flat towing(with Diodes) - not installed yet.
a) "inherited" a complete Roadmaster "Even Brake system" when I purchased my RV
b) Even Brake system uses the brake light circuit to activate the braking action on the Even Brake box.
c) "Push Button" start in the Willys requires a "Brake-Lite Relay" to be added to the toad.
d) Instructions for the Brake Lite relay show an additional diode AFTER power to the relay is supplied from the tail light wire in the flat tow harness (Brown wire) .
Question - Have any of you 2024 owners that use your Jeep as a toad installed a brake lite relay AND did you install the additional diode? ( I'm guessing that since the flat towing harness has diodes - I do not need one?) ...thnx

Hi there @KCSgtMaj, could you show how you tied it into the Mopar harness? I understand the blue wire is for braking input to a brake controller, and shouldnt have constant power, so I’m confused why this works? Im thinking I will have to tie into the black and white wires on the harness.

Thanks!

I hooked up the blue wire to the black wire inside the 7 pin connector. I supposed I could have explained it better in the original post.

I guess I’m old fashioned, I don’t like any auxiliary wiring connected directly to the Jeep. I use the M&G braking system that works off the air brakes on the MH. The tail light wiring is separate from the Jeep with two magnetic brake/ taillights that sit in the rear steel bumper with a plug mounted under the bumper. I also ran a separate charge line to the main battery, sort of redundant but the Jeep will stay hooked up for 7-10 days and I know the battery will stay charged.

The MOPAR RV wiring harness is all plug and play and can be ordered from the factory. The only change is the relocation of the blue wire in the head of the 7 pin connector to allow 12 volts to power the DC to DC charger from motorhome. The charger is necessary to charge the battery due to the brake controller using the towed vehicle battery to run the compressor. Works like a charm. Also the RVi dc to dc charger connects Wirelessly to the RVi dash readout and let’s you know what the braking and charging system is doing. It works well for what I have, if I had air brakes then I would have gone another route.

For any interested, I adapted the MOPAR harness to a standard 6 pin connector (since I use the Roadmaster Nighthawk tow bar that already has a 7-to-6 pin cable due to the built in LEDs).

I figured out what connector was used and found it for sale online at findpigtails.com. They have it listed as pigtail “B72C8”, as shown here:

Jeep Wrangler JL Flat towing wiring FindPigtails-Connector-SKU-B72C8-100x100

You can pick one up here: FindPigtails.com B72C8, and use the discount code WELCOME20 for 20% off. Its not super cheap. ($79 before discount)

Then, I used standard 6 conductor trailer wire (Amazon, or wherever) to wire the 6-pin connector, making sure to adapt the correct color wires from the MOPAR side to the standard colors on the trailer wire / 6 pin side. Unfortunately not all the wires on the MOPAR harness are standard so you have to map them to your wire and to the correct pins on the 6 pin plug. eTrailer has the standard pins/colors here: eTrailer Wiring 6-pin.

There are some other places that have the function of each color on the MOPAR harness, but Ill paste here:

Black is used for 12-volt
Red is used for Left Turn
Green is used for Tail Light
Brown is used for Right Turn
Blue is used for Brake Controller
White is used for Ground

The great thing is, not only is it all standard, but if I sell my Jeep to get another JL I can just unplug and remove my harness, remove the baseplate and provide the MOPAR 7-pin cable with the sale of the car to the next owner, while keeping my setup that is compatible with my tow bar.

Hope this helps!
