Just picked up my first Jeep. Looking for some ideas on mounting blue lights. I have the tow package so I can wire them to the OEM switches

Just get something that plugs into your cigarette lighter outlet and clips on your visors.

Copy. I've only been in NJ for 2 years, but figure its just easier for you to unplug the portable set up and hand it to a cop than to receive a summons to appear for inspection after you removed the hardwired version. ?‍♂

I have a permit so why would I have to turn it over?

Oh. I'm retired LE. In my world Fire doesnt have the authority to supersede traffic laws unless in an official marked fire vehicle. I could be wrong for NJ. My apologies.

My town and county is all volunteer fire fighters. All of them run red emergency lights on their personal vehicles and are allowed the same “courtesies” that marked fire and ambulance units have. Standard around here is 10-15mph over speed limit (depending on the road they are on and conditions) and must stop at and clear intersections before proceeding.

No apologies necessary. In NJ you can get a permit from the Police Chief if approved by the Fire Chief. You still need to follow all traffic laws. It is asking other drivers for a courtesy and makes your vehicle more visible if you have to respond to the scene.

According to OP, NJ allows blues (normally reserved for LE)

I can run blue only. The chief and deputy chief have combo red/blue with sirens. I failed inspections because I had a dashboard light even though I had the card issued by the chief to have it. Total BS so I started covering my strobes and grille lights with black electric tape even though they didn’t see them. You should do the same to CYA just in case the person doing your inspection is a hard ass.
We’re small town USA and work hand in hand with the Leos. Our police have stopped traffic at intersections for the cavalcade of blue lights responding to the firehouse when there’s smoke in the sky. We can’t ignore traffic laws and have to take into consideration the safety of the public especially during the tourist season when there’s 10x the amount of cars and pedestrians. The pedestrians will still enter the crosswalks even when you’re lit up like a Christmas tree in my town.

If you plan to travel out of your area with you jeep, it isn’t a bad idea to be able to remove the light. When I was stationed in NC the police made a guy cover his blue light with a garbage bag. He was visiting people on base and he was from PA where it was allowed to always have the blue light visible.

If I was mounting one though, I would go behind the dash to you aux switches like you suggested.

Can you post a pic of the lights? Might help with suggestions on where to put them.

I haven't purchased any. That's why I'm asking for suggestions.
