I'm sure this goes back 100 years when cars were first introduced.I seem to recall this is actually banned in most states by legislation. Tesla had a rough time getting going. Dealerships have strong lobbyists.

I think you’re specifically talking about delivery, not sale, but they’re the same thing here. With no “shipping” the bean counters can’t do the asset exchange to transfer the vehicle from Jeep to the dealer who is the only one that can sell it to you.

You can pick up a BMW at the Performance Center/factory in SC and you can do museum delivery for a Corvette, which comes with some perks at the factory. I think that's it these days.
