Is there such a thing as factory delivery? Place your order at the dealer but pick up your vehicle in Ohio when it's done type of thing.

That's hilarious.
That would make sense, save money and make the customer happy.
They ain't gonna do that. I don't know if any manufacturer does, except maybe Tesla.

I seem to recall this is actually banned in most states by legislation. Tesla had a rough time getting going. Dealerships have strong lobbyists.
Here is an old FTC link about it.
I think you’re specifically talking about delivery, not sale, but they’re the same thing here. With no “shipping” the bean counters can’t do the asset exchange to transfer the vehicle from Jeep to the dealer who is the only one that can sell it to you.

Thank for that link. Gave it a quick read. I can see where vehicles need a dealer in the state for sales and service. I'm sure this goes back 100 years when cars were first introduced.
Yes, I was talking about delivery even if I still had to pay the destination charge. Would be fun to pick it up at the factory and have your first ride be a nice trip.

You can pick up a BMW at the Performance Center/factory in SC and you can do museum delivery for a Corvette, which comes with some perks at the factory. I think that's it these days. Many of the European automakers used to do European delivery, but none of them do any more.

The dealer still processes the sale, you just take delivery elsewhere, which is how they work the (stupid) system. I don't know all the details of how it works, but it's available for all 50 states so I'm sure BMW's lawyers have figured it out. See: https://bmwperformancecenter.com/delivery/
