I was crawling under my JLURe last night looking for trail rash, and noticed a piece of insulation stuck on the front passenger spring. Figured I had picked up something on the highway returning from the trail. Then I noticed more stuck behind the fender liner and realized it was sound dampening material, but was not covered by a plastic liner. Did Jeep cut out part of the liner to do a mod on the 4xe before shipping?
Pics show how the plastic comes down to the frame on the driver's side, but lacks several inches on the passenger side. Note to JTE.... this sound insulation material does NOT hold up to gravel like the plastic does.
Edit... did so e more examining and it looks like the liner was blowing into the tire at highway speeds. Guessing the lower clip was left off or came off sometime and the liner wore through. Would have heard it rubbing on the trail. Luckily, with a chunk of roadside plastic I found and a few zip-ties, things are protected again.
