Hi - I have stock Rubicon fenders and liners with an Icon Vehicle Dynamics rear bumper. With the factory rear bumper closeout panels gone, this has created a massive area where mud accumulates. I can’t seem to find any aftermarket products that address this, so was thinking about trying to fab something out of ABS or HDPE material to extend the inner fenders and close out the gap. Would be great to get suggestions on materials or see some pics from those that might have attempted this already. I know there are a ton of high quality aftermarket options to totally replace the fenders and fender liners with steel or aluminum, but I’m not quite ready to drop the cash on those yet.

Here’s the area that I’m talking about that I would like to be able to close off…

Noticed that you may need to take care of those areas that look like the beginning of rust. That's terrible for a 2021 model.

That just looks like the remnants of desert.. I don't see any rust.

Do the paramount liners cover any more of that area? I know they are quite a bit thicker than oem, may be a good base to connect to an improvised blockoff plate.

I think ABS is probably the better material. I've only worked with thicker HDPE, and it's great with woodworking tools, but I think the ABS will be lighter and easier to heat and shape.

Correct… definitely no rust, just some red dirt from Sedona remaining after power washing off the globs of mud.

Among the aftermarket options, I do like the Paramount plastic liners the best. Decent price and close to OEM look. Do the OEM flares need to be chopped to work with the Paramount liners?

Thanks, I haven’t worked with either before. I was going to go 1/4” thick at most.

I don't think the fenders need to be chopped, but I think you'll lose the liner under the actual fender.

I wonder if sheet metal wouldn't be easier to work with. Be way easier to bend up the edges and make it it's own bracket.

It looks like Fishbone Offroad Chip Guards provide a good start to create a close out panel. Could cut a piece of ABS and join it to the Fishbone and to the OEM liner, something like this. Continuing to weigh the options…
