Looking to upgrade the stock (non Alpine) stereo in my ‘18 JLU. My go-to stereo shop wants $4500 for a new sounbar with 4 6.5s, 4ch amp, and a Stealthbox with a mono amp. Would sound awesome no doubt, but my budget is $2500.

Plan B: I saw the Alpine PSS-23 on Quadratech for $1400. Anyone have any experience with this set-up?

Plan C is a stealthbox, mono amp, and two 6.5s in the soundbar with the SSV kit and a 2 ch amp.
Thoughts? Recommendations?

Generally speaking you'll get more bang for your buck if you upgrade with a quality amp and upgraded speakers first. That will give you much more of an improvement in volume and sound quality over upgrading the head unit.

It really comes down to what you want, or more importantly what is missing. If you are missing a more cohesive sound, then better speakers are in order. If you're missing sub bass, then a mono amp and a sub are in order. I generally will recommend replacing the OEM speakers with better aftermarket versions with more power first, then move into sub and box combos. Having more control over the signal will also aid in having better sound.

FWIW, I've installed a few of the Alpine speaker kits in a couple of JK's and was never impressed. I've made the statement that I could do better with that money, even if it's not replacing everything they include.

Do not pay $1400 for it. Look around and you can find it cheaper, I got mine for under $1000 from 4WP on a sale with a coupon awhile back.

The biggest positive impact on my sound was when I upgraded the front speakers from 4" to 6.5". The next best was the Alpine upgrade as it powered the front speakers (which was an even bigger improvement) and gave me some much needed lows for a bit of a fuller sound.

The least impactful was upgrading the sound bar. I noticed no real improvement in sound quality and if I had to do it over I would use that money for even better front speakers instead. I will not upgrade the sound bar speakers on my next build.

Replace your dash speakers first. If that isn't enough add amp power to them. Next add a stealthbox and more power. Lastly replace the soundbar and knee location speakers.

Thank you to everyone who responded. I took your sage advice and skipped the Alpine idea. Instead, I have ordered a Stealthbox, Kicker 800w mono amp, Focal separates for rhe dash, and a Soundigital 100wx4 amp. Will worry about the soundbar speakers later and replace them if necessary.

I’ll post my impressions once everything is installed. Again, thank you to everyone who provided input.

For your budget you can get a Quart stage 6 and that is what I went with. There space on the rack for a third amp and I used their 400.1 to run my sub.

Nice, that will absolutely eclipse the Alpine kit for sound quality. Also Morel has some really nice speakers (Focal does too)
