Hi everyone,

I now have about 800 miles on our new 2020 JL Rubicon EcoDiesel.
Today when I was just about at a full stop and the engine cut off. When I went to hit the gas pedal, nothing happened. I hit it a few more times, nothing. No engine revving or anything., engine appeared to be off. Just as if I were pushing the pedal with the car completely off and not moving anywhere. I looked to make sure I was still in gear and not in neutral etc. I then tapped the brake, the engine kicked on and I was able to move and went on my way. This is the first time this has happened. I tried to replicate multiple times today but could not.
Anyone else experience this? I will be taking it to the dealer to at least have it checked out and documented of my experience however without it being replicated at the dealer and without any codes showing up that I am aware of, I doubt anything will be done unless there are further occurrences.
Thanks,
Dan

I really miss being 20 years old and having a real ignition key

lol, i hear you. i said to my self i was going to get a older jeep or truck just to avoid all the electronic and crap. but ended up getting a 19 jl sport. only because my 07 jeep shit a brick to soon, so no time to look around. however i did get lucky in getting the minimum options and not all loaded up with bells and whistles.

The engine is supposed to restart after ESS as soon as you release the brake pedal and even before you touch the gas.

I'm wondering if there is an issue with a brake pedal sensor etc? Since retapping the brake woke it up. Hopefully the dealership will make an effort to diagnose the problem.

I won’t insult your intelligence and ask if you’re a 2 foot driver. I agree with Htfan above probably something with the brake sensor.
P.S. I seen a guy drive like that once, left foot on the brake and right foot on the gas.

Either your pecker grew and pushed the on/off button when you were not paying attention OR your kneecap pressed the stop start button when you weren’t paying attention.

If ESS was not disabled and the engine cut off, the moment you release the brake pedal the engine comes back to life.

I am thinking your kneecap may have pushed the button and shut off your Wrangler when you weren’t paying attention.

This^^^is a good point because I know my left knee many times has knocked my lights out of “auto”. I come out of a store and say “why the f**k are my lights on”.

My dad drove like that for decades. And not just hovering over the one he wasn't using, no pushing both at the same time. You know, keep the RPM's up and modulate power with the brake. Always bitching his brakes wouldn't last. Until he got his Model S and Elon started screaming at him every time he did it...... took about a week and he was cured.

Yes what makes that habit so bad is if God forbid you have to make a quick decision, say a child runs out into the road you’d floor both pedals.
When I was a teenager in the 70’s I pumped gas at a Shell that had a service garage. I remember my boss reprimanding this customer saying “you have to be driving with 2 feet”!
The reason why.....the customer wanted to know why he only got 9000 miles out of his brakes.
This wasn’t even the same guy I was talking about earlier.
