I keep mine on. Like others have said, at short stops I keep the clutch engaged, but I generally don't mind it. I understand the AT drivers having issues with it, I'm not sure what that issue is with the MT and ESS.

Too damn hot in Texas most of the time to leave it on. Sitting at a long light I'd bake.

The rest of the time, I just have a fear of my vehicle shutting off and not turning back on at a light with traffic all backed up behind me. I feel much better leaving it running.

My wife and I both have 21s (don't remember my 18 doing this) , but if you have climate control and turn the temp down fairly low the ess will not stop the engine because it thinks it needs to stay running to reach that desired temp. In Fl I can set it to 67 and it never reaches that and the ess never activates.....

I'm in Melbourne and found the same thing basically, though 90% of the time I roll windows down. I have to set the temp to 68 or above to get ESS to activate.

I'm paranoid sometimes about people thinking I stalled my Jeep because of ESS haha

I agree that it does work smoother with the 6 MT. The time to push in the clutch and move to 1st gear is plenty for the ESS to restart comfortably before moving. If I know that I want to keep the climate controls running hit the button and don't worry about it anymore

I normally dont care for it, but I leave it on. Rarely ever works where I live cuz its rural and theres very few lights. With that said, over time, the Aux battery will discharge if not used. When it does, cuz its in parallel with the Main, it will pull from it. This could potentially shorten the life of the system considerably. Since my trips are relatively short, and my driving doesnt cause the ESS to activate normally, my solution is to place the system on a trickle charger periodically. This should keep both batteries fully charged and extend their life.

I’m curious how many people here who have 6-spd manuals and ESS actually use ESS.
I understand how it may be useful for the automatics but personally I turn it off as soon as I hop in my Jeep.
I really don’t even think about it, sometimes it kicks on sometimes it doesn’t I know it has something to do with the clima controls
