Recently my friend who has a Ford Bronco Manual Showed me the manual transmission that he has, Specifically the crawl gear. Pretty cool feature. You dont even need to push the gas, just ease off the clutch and the car starts moving. I was wondering if a Jeep can reproduce that by putting it into 4L and First gear. For all of you who have Manual transmissions. Will this work, or will it stall?

Thank you

Technically, if your gearing is low enough, you can. For me, I'm running 37" Tires, 4:10 Rubicon axle gears, 4:1 Rubi transfer case, and had the clutch and flywheel replaced with an ACT kit, and the only thing I need to do is keep my foot lightly on the gas to keep forward motion to stop it from stalling out when I'm on the trail and encounter an obstacle. If I went to 4.56, 4.88, or 5.13 gearing I probably wouldn't have to apply any throttle unless I want to bring RPM's up in 1st gear/ 4low or climb something bigger.

I've seen crawlers that have gearing so low, that they can put it in 1st, get out and walk next to it. it's wild.

Looks like you have a Rubicon so like others said it will work. If you had a Sport with stock gears it's a no go. Back when I had 3.45s on my Sport if I was in 4LO and let up the clutch without any gas it would stall instantly.

Yes, this worked on my Sport with 3.45 gears and is even better now that I have 4.56. In fact, I have to very slowly release the clutch to prevent the Jeep from lurching forward.

On flat pavement, I can get the jeep moving by just letting up slowly on the clutch in 1st. No need to put it in 4L.

On the trail in 4L (I have a 4:1), you can get up some pretty steep hills in 1st without pushing the gas. Mine is 100% stock with 33” tires and 4.10. I have to hit the brakes pretty hard to get it to stall out. I know this because I tried to do it on purpose to test out the re-start feature without depressing the clutch in 4L. It worked well.

If you have a manual transmission Jeep......just go try it.
If you don't have one and just asking.....if it was a Rubicon with the 4:1 t-case I would say it definitely would. Just about any vehicle I have ever driven would start moving in 4 low without any throttle input, just same you had to feather the clutch a little more, and not just pop it out.

4.88's and 35" tires on my JL, I can dump the clutch and it'll lurch forward without stalling, unless I'm against a rock or a steep uphill.

I'm often occupied, by many things, often at the same time
Had a stock JLR with manual and 4.88 gearing. It's a lower crawl ratio than the Bronco and it never stalled while on difficult trails.

The Bronco granny-first still doesn't provide a crawl ratio as low as the Jeep. Your friend's cool feature isn't a feature, it's just a low first gear, which means it's all but useless in almost all other scenarios, and still doesn't offer the low range of the Jeep drivetrain.

I had a manual with 37s and 4.88 gears and could get out of the jeep and walk it in 1st gear.
I've always called that "piss low". First gear, low range, get it moving, then get out of the Jeep, take a pee and the Jeep has hardly moved forward.

i never had issues with my 2.73:1 transfercase not being able to let out the clutch in first. it only stalled if on a big hill with out extra gas input. Even now with 37's and 4.88's i can without gas input move up hill without stalling.

Thank you Everyone for your replies. I guess Ford opted for a gear instead an entire gear ratio upgrade

dont get me wrong. I wish jeep had the granny gear. My 99 f350 has it. Thing moves alot of crap around the yard with that gear.

Agreed. I do like that MT88 in the Bronco! Imagine that with a 4:1 xfer case 😳
