I get a warning on starting my jeep for backup sensor temporarily unavailable. Any thoughts on cause or fix?

Are you talking the park sense system, the one where you press the button to disable it and then again to re-enable it?
The system with the sonar sensors in the bumper?
Does it say "park sense disabled, clean sensors" or words similar to that?

If so - which way is the valve stem facing on your spare tire on the mount on the tailgate?

The button on the console is lit, as if it is off. If I push it, it show's "Parking Sensor Off", If I push it again, it still shows "Parking Senor Disable, Service Required." Valve stem is on the bottom of the spare pointing up and slight out. :)

He ment where is the valve stem "pointing"

If you're hitch was 12 o'clock.... where is the valve stem ?

Probably because if it's close to pointing near the sensor, it could be throwing it off ?
