Hey guys - I have the smallest Uconnect system, the 5 incher (hate these things, but still has the basic stuff I want), but it's had an annoying issue from the very beginning.

When the screen first turns on whether through remote start, opening the door, starting the jeep, whatever, it comes up with an error screen saying "Update Failed, Error Code:12, Insert USB."

Ok, so I take it to the dealer a couple weeks ago, they take it in, do an update, say it's fine, and I go on my way. Don't notice it when I start it up at the dealer. I forget if the jeep was just left running and I just hopped in or whatever, but I didn't notice it that one time. But since then, it's back to the way it was before.

Everything works, though. All I have to do to get the error screen to go away is just pull up any other screen: the compass, usb media, settings, etc., and then the screen gets rid of the error message and is fine for the rest of the trip. Even when the error message is up SIRIUS plays, bluetooth can take calls, etc. In short, whatever this error is doesn't seem to be affecting any functionality of the system other than an annoying pop-up message at the start of each trip.

Just annoying, you know? Anybody else experience this? Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi rallydefault,

I understand why this would be frustrating. Very sorry for the inconvenience you're experiencing with your Uconnect system. Are you planning on bringing it back into the dealer? Send us a direct message with your VIN as we'd be glad to get a case started and escalate to a Case Specialist once the appointment is confirmed.

I have a jeep JL sport with the smallest uconnect as well. With my owners manual I got a thing for a years worth of Sirius xm radio but I canā€™t figure out how to even get Sirius on the radio, am I missing something here?

Not all of them are equipped with Sat Radio. If yours is, then it comes with a trial of Sat Radio. You can access sat radio by pressing the radio button twice.

Thanks, I guess I donā€™t have it then because all I have is fm and am. That kind of sucks youā€™d think for the money you lay down for one of these vehicles they all would come with that standard.

I feel the same way about the different size radios with the 5", 7", and 8.4" and the fact that one of them doesn't have CarPlay... why would they even stick a radio in this vehicle on UConnect 3???

There is a recall for some jeeps with your radio. It's for this issue as you state.

Exactly, I kind of wish I would have waited and did a little more research and shopped around a little bit, thatā€™s on me and it is what it is but they could have done a few things a lot better for people shelling out so much money on just the basic package jeep.

I'll be upgrading to one of the bigger radios soon... waiting for Infotainment to come out with the flashed radios and install guide. They're supposedly already working on it.

My only regret is not getting the tech package. I saw the Alpine option on mine and confused with the tech package. I am happy with the Alpine sound but want Android audio AND upgraded cluster with off road pages.

I'll probably install both the upgraded radio and the cluster when they are readily available.

HEY Jeep,
the 5" radio is pure torture. So bad I'm about to take a crow bar to it. How about a firmware update to make this thing comperable to other vehicles. I would think it would have been at least as good as the base radio in my '14 challenger...cause hey this is a 2018 Jeep JL...but god no this thing is freaking awful

Issues
-Poor/no Channel memory labeling after the first 5 memorized channels.
-Lack of characters for labeling of songs. I don't think it can even display enough characters to display Metallica. So if I'm using the folder function which is now pretty much useless, and I'm trying to find the label Metallica-black it won't display enough so you can't tell the difference from something labelled Metallica-Justice.
-Lack of channel/song/folder/source memory.....this is completely unacceptable.
-Poor radio reception
-Horrible Sirius XM reception
-Echo in the hand free calling

God I hate this freaking radio!

For a 40k+ vehicle, this piece of garbage radio shouldn't have even been an option.
