I'm trying to install a Genesys Gen 3 dual battery system in my 2019 JLUR. Made it all the way to the end (time to connect the battery terminals), connected the Pos(+) side and the batteries were connected but as I went to connect the ground (-), it arced. I removed the batteries and went to checking all the cables to see where the issue might lie. I found that measuring resistance between the frame and the N5 ,N6, and N7 the resistance (Ohms) is 0. For N1, N2 (simply jumpers to the battery pos terminal directly), and N3 it registers as above the max.
IS that expected? It seems that all of the N connections (N1 providing unfused power ) are connected to the same common plane (so I would expect them to all behave the same when measuring resistance against the frame. Any suggestions on next steps for me to try in troubleshooting this?

Not sure of the wiring of the dual battery system but I can tell you that you can't use the resistance setting of a multimeter with any sort of accuracy for any circuit with even a tiny bit of power in it. Even the old style testers with a bulb in them work better than a multimeter for that job.

Some sparking is normal (but still disconcerting) when reconnecting the batteries.

@mikehabl

Mike, as @Jebiruph points out, some amount of sparking while disconcerting is indeed quite normal. There are several components in your vehicle that are always powered 'on' like the engine and body control modules. Therefore they'll always draw a small amount of current. Since there is no way to isolate them unless you yank their fuses, a small spark will be the very normal and anticipated result.

BTW: Great investment. The Genesis Kit is a very good upgrade.

I just can't get past the ESS six cycle limit and it's expense. But hey for what they advertise they do deliver.

Best regards,
Jay

Thanks, hooked everything back up and didn't encounter any sparking. While the high amp breaker cables (N1-N7) all seem correct and are showing current is there, nothing in the jeep seems to be getting power - which makes me concerned that the PDC may be toast.
Does anyone know of a good way to test it?
