So you've been problem free since they did that "STAR" case on yours?

They didnt do anything besides charge my battery and supposedly its ok now, but ESS never engages...
Problem-free now 3,000 miles later. It sounds like your problem is identical to the ones in the threads I copied, including mine.

I’m at the dealer now and they just told me they didn’t think this Jeep had a separate ESS battery...and that was after he asked the tech too. It’s not like I’m at a small time dealer either, one of the biggest in Kansas City.

Do you know if they just replace the ESS battery under that star case or do they reprogram, or what? It’s a relief to know you’ve had the same problem and it’s no longer an issue at least...

They replaced the ignition, the relay and the ESS auxillary battery. Is this KCK or KCMo?

They just pulled it up and are talking about only replacing the relay, per the star case...

This is Olathe Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram, in their defense they are being very helpful and probably just haven’t seen enough of these yet.

I have an awesome dealer as well. Hopedully the relay is the problem. It likely was the primary problem with mine my service dept just decided to replace the whole system. I like Olathe, my old stomping grounds. Is that crazy Mall of the Great Planes still slummin' down there?

Olathe Jeep honestly has been great through this process, and they ordered the relay and will put in a new ESS battery he said. He said they are replacing the ESS in pacificias faster than they can order them...We’ll just take my wife’s car to Illinois this weekend because I don’t trust the Jeep.

Olathe is a good spot, we’re basically in Overland Park at 119th and Pflumm which is the Olathe/OP intersect...and to be honest I’ve heard that mall is a little rough lol I’ve personally never been, but my wife is a KC local unlike myself and she advises to avoid it at all costs LOL

Well hey thats great they are taking care of you. Im sure it will fix the problem. Tis why forums like this are valuable.

So I'm going to post a video here in a minute, but I am the newest member of the electrical nightmare club. At this point I just want to pick up another JK and call it a day.

So since the jeep was brand new every random start (between 15-30 ignition cycles) the radio would turn off 2-3 minutes into driving. It would come back on sometimes within 20 seconds, sometimes it would take the vehicle being shut off for it to turn back on. Sometimes the radio would come back on and then it would act as if someone were pushing random places all over the screen - changing between aux, xm, volume up - volume down. I called the dealership a couple of times and they gave me the typical "it needs to happen for us" response. I finally scheduled an appointment hoping that it would happen for them...never did of course, but they said they "reprogrammed the radio with the newest data" and sent me on my way. That was Monday 8/13.

Fast forward to 8/26 i hop in the Jeep (inside my garage) to run and pick up some lunch and the Jeep did all kinds of crazy stuff. The dash lights were flickering, the windshield wipers were engaging at random, service power steering, vehicle not in park, even the shifter lights were flashing yellow and white. The Jeep was stuck in the run position and pressing the start button didn't change a thing. The gauges were jumping around, the battery was still fully charged at this point. i couldn't move the jeep or do anything, couldn't get it to stop flickering and acting crazy so i just let it ride...took my wife's car to grab lunch and when I got back it was still doing the same thing.

I disconnected the battery and charged it back up, as soon as I reconnected the battery it started doing the same thing. i will call the dealership in the morning and they'll have to tow it. What a pain, seriously. At what point do i start researching lemon laws in Kansas? I only have one officially documented electrical issue on the books, now two...but who knows how many more are to come.

edit:

Hey just wanted to let you know my ford escape did the same thing as your jeep with the dash going crazy. It even caused my steering wheel to jerk around. Send your dash into circuit board medic. They will fix it and send it back. Problem solved!
