So, if Mark is good with staying at Tamarak a couple days longer or even if we have to find other accomodations near there, I'm in for staying in the area around Dusy until we can run Rubicon on a weekday. I think Mark is retired as well.

Retired from Corrections....I have stories.
I don't really want to run the Rubicon on a weekend either. I've been on the Rubicon when there was a lot of traffic and so have you. Remember than one year when there was a half dozen broken vehicles with long lines waiting for them. And all of them were Toyotas.
What are the chances of them being Toyotos??? When we ran the Rubicon, we got stuck behind about 10 Toyotas, and they would not move over and let us pass. Everyone of them would make multiple attempts at each obstacle. They slowed us up for about two hours. Finally enough of them broke down that they all turned around and headed back out the way they came in towing three of them.

I’m OK with this but need to check if my wife can get another couple days off from work. I too would prefer a weekday to avoid any crowds, if possible.

So, for anyone else that may be interested, we are doing Dusy-Ershim and Rubicon on one trip, with some trails around Dusy before and after Dusy-Ershim so we don't end up on the Rubicon on the weekend when it's loaded up. Then we travel a day up to Rubicon area and spend a night in a motel. Then we run Rubicon.

So, Aug 9, arrive at Tamarak Sierra lodge,
Aug 10, do a local trail for part of the day as a warmup
Aug 11, start Dusy-Ershim trail, finishing on Aug 13
Aug 13 to Aug 16, stay at Tamarak Sierra lodge and do some local trails
Aug 16 meet up at the Stagecoach Inn Pollock Pines, go to dinner.
Aug 17 to 18, run Rubicon Trail
Aug 18 (afternoon) return to the Stagecoach Inn for showers and dinner
Aug 19 depart for home.
