The RockHard step sliders I have are about what you describe. They have bounced off rocks from Moab to Rubicon. They protect the side and you can stand on them...barely.
Just looked at them.
It seems they are body mount and not frame mount. Unless I read that incorrectly.
Looked at the angled up version.

Just looked at them.
It seems they are body mount and not frame mount. Unless I read that incorrectly.
Looked at the angled up version.
They are frame and body mounted. Mine are the flat top type. I've seen the angled type. I like the flat top. They can take a pretty hard shot.

I have the AMP Research XL steps on my JLU Willys. Really happy with them.

I have the Rough Country and they do what I need them to do and they are much less expensive than the others mentioned. Guess it depends on what you need.
