Apologies, I didn't have coffee yet when I posted earlier. I have a '23. Everything else is still correct.
Since you are now awake I have a question. The manual shows an “OR+ On at Launch” setting that my 21 also doesn’t have. Have you tried it ?

Where does your manual show that? In mine on page 146 it says that OR+ will only be retained between ignition cycles if the transfer case is in 4L mode. My manual version is "Second Edition 23_JL_OM_EN_USC" and I got it from Jeep's web site back in April.

If you are talking about "Press the Off Road+ button when “Auto Launch Off Road+” (if equipped) has been selected under camera settings.", on page 165, I think it's related to trail cam settings, meaning if enabled, the trail cam will activate if OR+ button is selected".

There is also a mention of "Auto Launch with Off-Road+" on page 186, but I think it's still the same thing - it controls what screen(s) are displayed when the vehicle is turned on AND it's in the OR+ mode (remember that OR+ setting survives ignition cycles if the transfer case is in 4L mode).

So your page 219 is my page 186:
Jeep Wrangler JL Drivability in OR+ 1700859780058

Looks like they definitely changed the "Description" between 2021 and 2023. I found a 2021 manual online and here is the page from it:

My Aug of 21 manual lists On-Off-and “Camera” that didn’t make sense to me ( what does Camera have to do with OR+ ?) The 21 manual you found doesn’t mention Camera for further confusion. The options you’re manual shows make no sense ( through the radio ?) But it isn’t in my Jeep’s “settings” anyway. ?

Your page 186 and his page 219 is my page 222 ? And although it's in the manual I do not have a check box to auto launch OR+ :( However I did take the opportunity to uncheck the weather alert feature - so I got that going for me, which is nice! :handsinair:

I do not think there was ever a feature that allows for OR+ to be enabled on vehicle start, UNLESS you put the transfer case in 4L mode, enable OR+ by pushing the console button and then turning the vehicle off. If you do that, theoretically it should start in OR+ mode. I'm too lazy to try it.

Regardless of the ambiguous/incorrect language in the manual, I am pretty sure that the "Auto Launch with Off-Road+ " setting in the screen enables the trail cam to turn on in the off-road mode on vehicle startup (instead of just a regular default infotainment screen) and has nothing to do with controlling the actual OR+ mode itself.

I think this question about OR+ can be answered by people listing the year of their 392, and whether it has the XR package or not.

I have a '22 392XR and totally stock and has the CA emissions. If I've got OR+ activated, it won't go into 4 cyl mode no matter what I do. The transmission mapping is much more aggressive, fuel burn goes up by around 20%, and the throttle response feels much more "snappier" and sportier. Exhaust also pops and burbles a lot more. It's fun to run in this mode, but it does eat up a ton of fuel - so I tend to just leave it off unless I am in a mood to make noise.

I called a few people and asked if the controller on the 392 XR-optioned Jeeps had different logic, and I got a definite 'yes' from one source. I have no idea if it's limited to some build dates or flash dates for the controller, but mine definitely has the "4cyl delete" mode when OR+ is pressed. I don't plan on ever letting the dealer re-flash anything...

You give a lot more credit to Stellantis than me. I doubt they are that specific. But if you think they are doing changes by model year and an option package in the PCM, that is great, but you can’t turn off MDS is any other model in all of stellantis 392 offerings, challenger, Ram etc. But if your 22 392XR does it then don’t sell it;).

I'm not sure if they did it on purpose, or by mistake... I got one of the earlier XR optioned 392s, and there's a good chance that something was different in the controller. They definitely had to recalibrate for the bigger tires and different gearing, so my guess is that 4cyl mode somehow went away.

I'm really curious to know if later '22-'23 XR optioned Jeeps still go into 4cyl mode with OR+ activated, and whether the '24 392s all have the same behavior where 4cyl mode acts the same as non-XR optioned units. I haven't driven a '24 and don't know anyone who has one, but it's entirely possible that Stellantis standardized on one logic set for all 392s in '24 onward.

My 2024 XR392 reacts the exact same way in OR+

I have a 22XR and it doesn't go into 4 cylinder mode when I am in offroad+. However, it easily does when I'm not in OF+.

I love OF+. I use it a lot around town. I love the pops / crackles and the shift points. Not a big fan of the shifting/gearing without it. Always feels like I am in too high of a gear and it takes a second or so to shift down to really get to the meat of the acceleration.

Put my 2024 392 into OR+ today. I am just at 200 miles so still doing break in driving. What am I suppose to notice in OR+...seemed the same to me maybe slightly higher shift points...exhaust sounded the same as regular mode and I have the exhaust in open mode.

I've lived in OR for over 20 years and drivability has largely been a weather related issue.
