How to install 3M Paint Protection Film.

You can use an "All in One Solution" when you apply the 3M film.
You would mix and pour your solution into an empty, clean, spray bottle.

All in One Solution mixture:
8oz. of 70% Isopropyl Alcohol
24 oz. of Distilled Water (DISTILLED WATER)
2 ml of Johnson's Baby Shampoo

Got it done today. The hinges were super easy. I also had to do the passenger rear fender, as it didn't come with film (or the dealer removed it and denies). The fender was quite difficult. After 3 tries it looks decent, but I'm still not 100% happy with it

Did you cut it yourself or use the kit from R3? How long did it take you? Thx

I cut it from a roll I ordered on Amazon. The pieces you see next to the spray bottle are the shapes of the cut outs; the upper hinge is the rectangle and the lower hinge extends into the body of the vehicle, so it's almost square. I only wrapped the leading edge, rather than the entire hinge, because I felt the side facing front is where the stone chips would occur. It probably took me 30 minutes including the cutting. I used about a 60/40 mix of water and rubbing alcohol, with a few drops of blue dawn. My cuts aren't as exact as the precut kit would be, but they also aren't really visible. Everything adhered really well and seems to be doing the job. I had already purchased the roll of film to do my fender that didn't come with it from the factory (that install suuuuucked by comparison).

Planning on doing this when my jeep arrives. What size of 3m film (width) is needed for coverage of the rear fender width. An.. any advice...

I ordered 6 inch, but 4 inch would have been fine.

And yours should come with it from the factory; mine was just missing on one side. Or removed by dealer...

Ha... I had read that it did come on the fender but I am such a pessimist at times... I was figuring the dealer will remove it thinking its shipping tape...

Exactly why I had ordered it...and it was a self fulfilling prophecy.

Thank you! Glad to hear that the film takes to the hinges well. Wish i would have ordered the film beforehand, with my luck i'll land the first chip the day the film arrives.

You can't really use the applicator because the entire surface is curved, but just run your fingers over the whole surface and squeeze all the liquid out the edges.

this chip is what prompted me to make the protectors cover the side of the hinge as well as the front part of the hinge.
I am in the process of getting a video put togeather showing the installation of the pre cut protectors.

Got to tell you that i cringe every time you post pictures of your hinges...just brutal.
