My door check went inside the door. I’ve tried pulling on it to get it out with no luck. Has any one else had this happen?

I’d think that clamping vise grips on it and giving it a good tug would pull it out?

So use a longer bolt, then opening the door will pull it out?

SCIENCE!
Vice grips won't do the trick.

Answer seems to be putting the door on the hinge, closing it most of the way, and either squeezing the bolt in or getting an extra long bolt of the same thread/diameter and threading it partially. Once you get a little threading, you can use the leverage of the door to pull the thing out. No matter how you cut it, an irksome little project...

Mine did that. I used vice grips with duct tape on the jaws.it pulls right out.

You're not saying this post is vague are you? Should be clear as a bell how to do after reading it..

The one where Fatboy says the thread above is vague? Yeah, he links to videos showing the door check, and acknowledges that the way to fix it isn't clear.

In a year, somebody in the aftermarket will come up with a bracket tool to pull it, but today it's still pretty tricky.

Well, what he stated, in regards to how to handle, could not have been any clearer.. he stated..

"What you can do (one of a few ways) is take the a much longer bolt and use it in place of your short check strap bolt. The longer bolt will allow you to reach to...to fasten up to the check strap and pull it out of the cavity further. After it is out, remove your long bolt and then use the short bolt to secure the check strap properly. So, guess you will be going to the hardware store. You will be careful next time not to let the check strap go into the cavity."
