Hi Friends.
I’ve been through it my dealership has had my jeep for 17 of the last 18 months.
it’s a 2018 Jeep wrangler JL 117000km, Nacho color my baby.
there was a bunch of codes and ticking they miss-diagnosed it, they charged me for services I didn’t need to fix it. They finally changed the camshafts and rockers on both sides and oil pump a bunch of solinoids the list goes on. I paid for some but not all after a fight.
the attached is my engine now it runs great there is a rhythmic noise I think is coming from the alternator belt. I just want to be sure there still isn’t a tick and I have ptsd so I’m freaking out does this sound good am I imagining it. Thanks all for your help and opinions.

That sounds awesome, if it was a 7.3 deisel.o. not good, sorry, lifters, or worse sloppy crank bearings, etc

I'm not one to throw parts at a problem, but if my 60k engine started ticking, I would find the newest low mile junkyard engine and start there.

I can't understand replacing delicate parts that shredded themselves, but keep the big parts that are now contaminated with all that metal shavings

edit:

sw engines has a longblock out of a 24 wreck, $5,999. I'd go that route before dropping thousands on a motor fouled with metal shavings.

I was also about to suggest sounds like lifter ticking… not sure whether this is actually a problem or not. I’ve had a many engines that had loud lifters and there wasn’t anything wrong with it. BMW V8s for example have an incredibly loud high pressure fuel rail and lifters.

Replace the entire.engine. Here is the most reliable option:

Yeah, that high-pitch ticking noise are the injectors and sounds normal, but it's the slightly deeper and slower note beneath it that doesn't sound promising.

What are you referring to they basically replaced the whole top end. Then a mechanic said there was a bottom end noise but then said there wasn’t.

It’s probably just a bad example of phone audio amplifying a minor problem. Could go a long time like that, what do you have to lose? Just drive it.

The engine sounds good. I’d put some 40 grade in there. Don’t listen to the doomers. Our forum Jeep techs @alphawolff have said these top end repairs are the best option and replacements can be worse depending.

Thanks man I really appreciate it and I agree with you. What’s 40 grade?

I have no doubt the top end is fine. Just not sure what the other noise is, but it could be your phone amplifying it. If you've got power and no CEL, send it.

I and several others run 40 grade motor oil as it helps with residual boundary layer and lubrication. I’m on AZ and run Castrol Edge Euro 5w-40. If I lived in a colder environment I’d run 0w-40 such as Castrol or Mobil 1 FS Euro.

Make sure to drive spirited above 3000 rpm as that will push the variable displacement oil pump onto high pressure and help lubrication. Just search my posts for more info.
