I just picked up my 2024 Wrangler and have a three month trial of Jeep Connect. I noticed the settings for Drive Alerts (speed, curfew, boundary) and it made me wonder whether Jeep Connect is collecting data about driving habits to be shared with insurance companies, like GM's Smart Driver which has been in the new recently.

With GM's Smart Driver, you can simply turn off the program. So if Jeep Connect is collecting the same data, I'd like to opt out.

Anyone know more about Jeep Connect data sharing?

Thanks

I have a 24 and submitted for a LexisNexis report and it reported back nothing about driving habits, so I'm thinking that while they can, they're *currently* not selling it. At least not to insurance.

What is FCA / Stellantis / Jeep's way of phoning this data home? I think there's the equivalent of a SIM card in the head unit of my JL, but I've never activated it. Is it always on? What is the actual mechanism that uplinks the data?

I'm like 99% sure it has a 4g LTE Sim. My XM subscription can use it for Pandora streaming stations.

There's either 3 or 4 antennas, depending how you count them.

Jeep Wrangler JL Does Jeep Connect collect driving data like GM's Smart Driver? 1718938464893-q8

There is at least one but there might be two SIMs. One has to be LTE cat 1 (high speed) because they try and sell you a hot spot for a subscription. Telematics might use that but I would not be surprised if they used a CAT-M1 or NB connection, which is data only and slower, but the connection only costs about $50/year. Probably less for an OE in bulk.

When my connection is working it certainly tracks where I am, tire pressures, 'aggressive driving', oil level, fuel level, engine codes and reports those to the mother ship.

And traffic, despite being free over FM, arrives via cellular. As well as gas prices etc. Remote start, remote unlock etc.

Any idea where all these antennas are located? I would like to disconnect every one and see who complains the most. I also want to remove any SIM cards. Where I go and how I get there is my business, and no one else’s.

Unfortunately the new radios use basically what is a hardware level Sim card that is integrated into the head unit and non-removable. The older 2023 and down models you can actually remove the modem out of the radio but you have to take it out of the dash and take it apart to get to it. The other antennas are receive only so nothing is sent out over them. You don't have to worry about receive only antennas just transmitters. The modem in the radio is what controls the transmission so even if you remove the antenna technically that modem could still connect over a short distances so removing the modem is what you want to do. Then the antennas don't matter anyway.

I have a 2022- I work in computers and digital privacy ironically and am pretty confident in my jeep modding but balk at taking out the dash. Have you done this successfully?

What else would removing the modem impact from a functionality level? XM, the “connected services”, and maybe the nav system I think? I don’t use XM radio and will replace the sos button with a Ham radio, so oh well on those fronts. I absolutely want Jeep Corporate and whomever else out of my vehicle.

Depends on how complete you want to prevent signals from leaving the vehicle. You can buy Faraday sheets to cover the interior of the hard top around the roll bar antennas and pull the head unit to encircle it with it as well.

Antennas are on the roll bar.

@autotragic yes they probably use esims but who knows - physical sims are still very common.
There is no probably about it. Uconnect 5 radios no longer use physical SIM cards. Uconnect 4 and older did. I think on one of the Dodge Ram forums a guy made a really nice post detailing how to remove the modem from the 8.4 inch Uconnect 4 radio like my Rubicon has.

You don't have to take out the dash you're just taking out the head unit it's really not that involved of a job. And yeah you'll lose a bunch of services but if you're like me and you don't use them then it doesn't matter. I still can't figure out why manufacturers think they need to supply crappy navigation anyway when Google maps and Waze exist. Also use my phone for music so I have no interest in paying more money for satellite radio.
