The bolded text is a huge red flag, for several reasons.I also paid a $1,000 non-refundable deposit which I don’t think I’ll get back if I decide to place a new order. Especially since the initial vehicle is already built.
By law, a PA vehicle dealer can't retain an order deposit (in my case, $500.00) if the customer requests that it be returned to him. Obviously, the customer also forfeits the claim to the ordered vehicle, if or when it arrives at the dealership. That's fair enough.
If in fact Maryland allows a non-refundable deposit for such matters, and even if you signed a form stipulating to this fact, you can still make a case for the $1K to be returned to you, if that's what you want. New Wranglers sell themselves, now more than ever, due to current market conditions. There's also the matter of your salesman apparently giving you erroneous vehicle configuration info, although that can quickly devolve into a He said/He said discussion, possibly with no resolution.
Good luck with however you decide to proceed here.
