I just posted yesterday my 2019 JLU Rubicon
I had to replace the engine from what started out as the perceived need for a set of plugs. Take a look at the post and pictures to see the cam and rocker damage with no indication externally that it was happening.
After speaking with several mechanics and a dealership this engine has a well know defect causing cam and rocker wear and also a known defect in the block that can lead to head gasket leaks. It amazes me that Jeep continues with this engine with these problems. The rebuilt engine has a 3 year 100,000 mile warranty.
If I am ever able to pay off the cost of the engine ($11,238) amd decide to trade it is or sell it I will never buy a Jeep again without an extended warranty.
you were scammed out of an engine my friend. The rocker arm is well documented and an easy repair. Cams only need replacing if you ignore the noise for a long time.

Maybe but when you add that to a blown head gasket from a defect in the block and antifreeze now in the exhaust and the oil and the significant scoring of the cylinder it was the only thing to do.
My question is why is Jeep still using this engine with these known defects? Especially with a 65K warranty and this problem typically does not show up till after 80-100K mileage!

Because the known defects are relatively easy repairs. The head gaskets are especially common, but they never need an engine replaced. I doubt the cylinders were damaged unless you ignored the rocker arms to the point of it misfiring for thousands of miles.

Over $11000 for a rebuilt engine sounds wrong.

Did not even have a clue as to the condition of the rocker arms and the cams till it was torn down.

You can hear it. It's loud as hell. It'll also start misfiring at high RPMs and slowly coming down in the RPM band as the lobe begins to wear.
Well That comment is pretty off base! There was no indication that I saw! The mechanics that diagnosed the problem did not see or hear anything till tear down,

The only indication was a code reading that said a misfire on #4 cylinder.

The last motor we installed was $9000 out the door and only had 17 miles on it, that includes the motor and the install. Depending on timing and stock, we offer one of the best motor installs for the cheapest. The motor we installed was for a customer that was quoted $10k for a rebuild, then was told it would be $21k, he paid, then was told they were no where close to being done and needed another $10k. He ended up towing the vehicle to us and he was ready to roll in 4 days.

As far as ticks go, we do free diag and quotes. Most quotes for fixing a tick is anywhere from $3k to $5k but our mechanics agree that it will be very loud for many miles before there is any long lasting damage. We suggest getting the job done before it gets to that point just to play it safe but we've had some very loud ticks come that sounded like that "for weeks" and there wasn't any cam damage. I hope that helps!

Well too little too late! Motor has already been replaced. Not for a tick but for a blown head gasket from a defective block. Cam and rocker damage were not discovered till tear down. Total cost labor and materials including a new starter and an auto start battery was $11,238.

Sorry to hear about that! Feel free to give our team a call next time you need drivetrain work to at least get our thoughts or write you up a quote to compare to your dealer/negotiate a better price.

Well, with Pentastar engines, it could be sooner than later.

Probably a good idea to keep that phone number handy.

Well for me I still have an extended warranty and this is exactly why right here I bought the Mopar extended warranty.
