I have a 2018 JL Wrangler with 58k miles I was trying to make sure I don’t have pentastar tick since it could just be me thinking but I want to make sure I don’t since people here have more experience identifying it since I can’t really tell since the engine has never been that quiet anyway. But I do run 87 octane gas normally so not sure if I should try to put some premium and see if that quites it. If you can just let me know if it sounds like pentastar tick or am I over reacting? If you can let me know thank you. Also video of it running is attached.

Sounds fine to me too. You’ll know it when you hear it. Sounds like a diesel knock. Change the oil regularly to make sure the rockers get lubed.

I had a Cherokee that went to Jiffy and I think they screwed up the oil quantity or type. It was ticking bad and it started right after that oil change. So evidently the 3.6 is sensitive.

My neighbor has a JK with the pentastar tick, you absolutely know when you have it. He is planning on fixing it when he sells or trades it in.

I have not lubed the rockers but I stay on top of oil changes

I wouldn't worry about that. Let me borrow your ear for a minute.
I had a 1980 Plymouth Valerie, 6 cylinder. The damn thing sounded like a singer sewing machine. I ran the dog 💩 out of that vehicle. You couldn't kill that car, it would not die!

I'm going against what others are saying. It is a little loud. Change the oil, and see if it doesn't quiet down.

BTW, I believe they call it the "Hemi Tic", not Pentastar Tick. Also, a Tick is a Parasitic Insect, that sucks blood.

I was in school with a guy who bought our professor's old 60s Dodge Dart. First car. We asked Craig if it used oil, he answered "Oil?"

I just posted yesterday my 2019 JLU Rubicon
I had to replace the engine from what started out as the perceived need for a set of plugs. Take a look at the post and pictures to see the cam and rocker damage with no indication externally that it was happening.
After speaking with several mechanics and a dealership this engine has a well know defect causing cam and rocker wear and also a known defect in the block that can lead to head gasket leaks. It amazes me that Jeep continues with this engine with these problems. The rebuilt engine has a 3 year 100,000 mile warranty.
If I am ever able to pay off the cost of the engine ($11,238) amd decide to trade it is or sell it I will never buy a Jeep again without an extended warranty.

Put a full tank of premium fuel. If ticks disappear, then it could be start of a trouble.

Just developed on a 2018 JL with 51K miles, seeming more evident on cold start. CE light revealed cyl 1 misfire with a generic scan. Changed plugs, swapped coil packs around and still coming back to same code (po301). Will see what dealer says...
