This is my second Jeep Wrangler. The first was diesel with the Mercedes engine and I loved it. I went on to own a Mercedes E class and then a 911 Porsche. I decided to go back to Wrangler Jeep and bought a one year old 4xe. Basically was delighted with it until with no warning the hybrid battery ā€˜died’. I live in Spain where it is a bit laid back and it took 4 weeks to replace it. It was under guarantee so no real problem. I understand that there is an 8 year guarantee from the registration date of the vehicle. I spoke with one of the Jeep guys who casually said that the battery normally lasts 3-4 years. Given that a replacement costs c17000€ plus fitting and tax has forced me to sell it.
I am so disappointed and disgusted - in my opinion the new owners have taken an amazing vehicle and completely screwed it up. I am very cross as I love the Wrangler Jeep.

Well why did you get a 4xe… of course this was going to become an issue with Stellantis track record. Considering you’re in a Jeep-unfriendly continent with very limited support, service and parts availability, I’d say you could have seen this coming. Or rather should have, with proper research. Also all the vehicles you had prior are statistically much more reliable than Jeep, so it’s a curious change.

All that said, of course it still sucks tremendously that Stellantis was able to fool you into buying the vehicle. You should not be experiencing this but it was avoidable. And yes - the issue is the sh**show that Stellantis is.

The 4xe battery will last much longer than 3 or 4 years. I've already owned a couple of 4xe's for longer than that with no issue or reduction in range/capacity. Maybe your mechanic was referring to the standard 12 volt battery life expectancy.

I feel sorry for anybody that has purchased a 4xe. Our Feds did a say's just on them with the tax credit.

we've been replacing a lot of 21s already. i'd say the ~4 years before common failure point is probably accurate. the more you charge cycle it the shorter its life it going to be. i suspect just about every 4xe will have its battery replaced at least once in its lifetime

fortunately they have an unlimited mileage and time warranty now here in the states
