It's a great point Chris, but FCA would respond that they thought of that in using body weight metrics on the front driver's seat, or absence thereof, as the trigger mechanism for the safety feature when doors are absent.

I'm a little bit confused as to how their rig's computers define "the absence of doors." My guess is that the door wiring harness is disconnected...but then does a bare bones Sport JL even have this wiring harness?
The only way I know how to disable this 'feature' is to take the doors off (or I guess more specifically - disconnect the wiring harness to the door (s). This, of course, is a solution that is a pain in the a$$. Not sure if you need to disconnect only the driver door harness or all of the doors.

The brake pressure will work in both forward and reverse, up to about 15-16 mph at least. I’ve had no new to test further. It works going through gates and backing up with the door open, and that works for me. Anything else I would fasten seatbelt or buy a taser.
@BillG, best solution yet, I finally remember to try this and it works great.

Has anyone investigated the brake pedal?
Since light brake pressure prevents it, I'm wondering if there's :
1- a pressure switch on the brake line
2- a separate electrical switch (like for brake lights) on the pedal.

If it's a switch on the pedal, maybe it could be moved back so as to never be tripped?
I assuming there is a position/pressure sensor in the brake system, when stopped a light pressure on the brake will disable the ASS, press harder and ASS will go into a start-stop event and shut the engine down.

I'm only guessing it's using something like a BOO (brake on/off) switch, so if you tripped it all the time your brake lights would be on all the time and your cruise wouldn't work.

But it may not be this simple at all.

Will it actually do an ESS event with the driver's door open???? I'm not sure it's looking for brake pressure here? Or is it?

If you unplug the door wiring harness, it will behave in "doors off" mode , no "AutoPark"
This can easily be plugged back in, rather than actually trying to alter the wiring harness to fool the sensors. Unintended Consequences can be alarming..
Nope, Even with the doors completly off and my seat belt on. I still get thrown into auto park!

@Blue_Jean_Baby

IF, your driver's side seat belt is indeed fastened, you should not be seeing your JL, go into "auto park when you back up"... that's is regardless of whether your doors are on and open, or your doors are off and stored in your garage.
