For those looking for an easy to use.. to install, diode, that does not require any soldering, this diode is an alternative for you. Yes, it is pricier ($11.00+-) then the run of the mill diode.

I am not an electrics expert, but I believe a diode is a semiconductor device that only passes current in a single direction (until it reaches a breakdown point). If you're just connecting another LED (light emitting diode) in parallel to your backup light, what current are you trying to block? I'm assuming this device must be used in more complicated applications than the illustration above. So when would I need this?

Someone posted where they had wired LED backup lights in to turn on with both shifting into reverse and an auxiliary switch for just lighting up the area. They put the diode on each line to not get any stray power from whichever source is turning the light on at the time.

So if you are just connecting LED's to the back-up lights the diode is not needed?
