Hey everyone
I’ve had my 6 speed JL for about 10 months and have put 6k miles on it so far (bought brand new) and have had an off and on problem with shifting into first gear. This mainly happens if i’m at a slight roll coming to a stop sign/light and need to throw it back into first quickly to get going again. The best way I can describe it is it doesn’t seem to seat into the gear all the way and slips out. I can feel the shifter give me some good resistance and end up having to throw it back into neutral and go back and forth a couple times until it decides to smoothly enter first. If anyone else has this problem or knows of any solutions, I’d appreciate it.

I have not experienced this in my 6 speed.

At what speedometer speeds are you trying to put it into first gear?

I’d say about 5mph or less. I get bogged out in second going slower than 7mph so that’s usually when i’ll throw it into first.

If you're rolling at that speed, you should be able to feed the shifter some constant pressure to get it into gear especially with the synchronized gears.

Have you tried double clutching to see if that makes a difference? I know you shouldn't have to double clutch but it may help diagnose the issue.

yeah i double clutch if i have the time to, i’m not very good at it and can’t do it exceptionally fast but it does help most of the time. I just think it’s an odd problem and it happens when i’m at a complete stop sometimes too.

I agree it's odd. Only other advice I can offer is to try changing the gear oil in the transmission/making sure it's properly filled.
