Just replaced my diff fluid for the first time on my 2018 JL Sport S (at 92,000 miles- yeah, I know). Everything went as expected, except for this piece I found on the drain plug of my rear diff. It doesn't look like a gear tooth - it's got a groove in it, leading me to believe (hope?) a piece of metal flaked off of the interior threads of the rear diff drain hole as I was unscrewing it (quite a bit of debris rained down from it as I was removing the plug), but want a second opinion as to whether or not I'm just being naively optimistic, here.

The only way you will have piece of mind is to pull the cover and fully inspect.

Considering you waited until 92k to change the lube an internal wipe down and magic glitter removal might be in your best interest.

Besides, if there is anymore of that stuff you pictured in your post is still in the rear and it gets up in the gears your gonna have a real bad day.

Looks like a tailing. No worries.

Fluid change and roll on.
