So happily rolling over 15000 miles and no mechanical problems and dealer visit yet, most reliable Jeep I owned so far, while doing the oil change, I also Change the transfer case fluid just out of curiosity because when I change my Raptor's t-case fluid around 10k miles it was pitch black. Since they are similar clutch t case I'm glad it was clean clear red fluid and should not be worried for a long time. Diff was another story, it was DIRTY, you really should change the 1st fluid early and flush out the break in garbage.

transfer case took a little over 2 qt, front & rear diff fluid was little less than 3qt total.

Front diff was looking ok.

Rear diff was dirty, and had odd smells.

It was extremely dirty inside the rear diff as well, ring gear and locker sensor was all coated with black fine metallic..

I’m a firm believer in 15K fluid changes on our axles. Also recommend running a 75W-140 synthetic front/rear. I changed mine at 1100 miles when I potted my locker sensors and it was pretty grey…glad I got the break in fluid out!

After years of manually pumping oil into my differentials, transfer case and transmission, I finally broke down and got one of these

It was worth the money. Makes the job easier, especially with limited room under the vehicle.

If you get one, get it with the brass shut off valve. The plastice hose clamp leaks fluid and makes a mess. :)

Mike, is it possible that the black stuff you saw in the rear diff was from the AEV diff cover you've got, like it had a faulty coating or something? Or did you just now install that when you changed the fluids?

this was the factory cover and AEV cover was installed after the fluid change....I guess with a v8 more torque was applied and more wear?
