I’d say different engines, considering the Rubi spec sheet doesn’t have options for different hoods. It is likely that some of these are Hurricane powered Jeeps.

I think it may be different engines? V6 vs V4 or maybe Diesel?
Yeah, that’s likely, but those two options seem logical.

Either Trim level or Engine space/cooling requirements.

My guess is the black one is the Hurricane engine hood

Wow, you really notice the difference in the bulge on the mesh vented one in that second shot, it almost seems ‘featureless’ and would lead me to believe that the top one is the HR equivalent and the bottom the standard Rubi... although it might be more based on engine cooling / dome space requirements more than trim levels.

Personally prefer the Red one’s styling, but hope the balck one’s mesh insert are interchangeable so I can run the mesh in summer which might work better for crawling and idle, and then the louvres in winter (like I do now with moded / not).
Although if they are direct replacements for the current 10A I’ll just keep whichever one the JL doesn’t come with.
Based on other features, all the models at the New Zealand event appear to be "Hard Rock" edition Rubicons, which has me leaning toward the engine as the deciding factor.

edit: after looking at the options packages again, some could simply be optioned-up Rubicons, however they all have the red outlined Hard Rock styled RUBICON hood decal, but maybe that's the standard Rubicon hood decal now...

edit 2: there are photos floating around of an uncovered Granite Crystal JLUR in Colorado, and it has the JK Hard Rock styled hood, but black flares and the standard plastic bumpers...

I have reason to believe this isn’t a Rubicon. No wide track (rear fenders don’t extend out). No hightop front fenders either.

Couldn't it just be a Rubicon without the steel bumper package? Aren't the red shocks usually indicative of a Rubicon?

Does the steel bumper package include hightop fenders? I thought the fenders were standard. But no, red shocks are not exclusive to the Rubicon. At least not on the JK. Take a look at the Willy’s edition

Now that you mention it, those aren't high line fenders, so very unlikely to be a Rubi.

also, LED pkg isnt available on the Sport right? So that would rule that out since the front markers look to be LED?

It could be a mismatched Rubicon for all we know. I do think it’s a bit ridiculous to leave all the nice options out for the Sport. This means 2 door buyers have to step it up to a Rubicon for some painted fenders and LEDs
