My JL Rubicon has reached the paint stage so should be arriving in the next couple of weeks, and I keep seeing forum members have issues upon delivery with theirs. This is my third jeep(all of them unreliable as a third world Jalopy) but my first wrangler, and wanted to know what should I be looking for before I take delivery. There has to be a list of things that long time Wrangler owners would know to look for and catch immediately, that will help myself and others as we take delivery of our first one. I have no illusions of this being Lexus reliable and plan to beat the hell out of it, so no kid glove expectations here just the major things.

I special ordered a Firecracker red JLU rubicon. Premium soft top, infotainment group, steel bumpers, black leather, proximity entry, Automatic, all weather floor mats, trailer group, painted fenders, LED group, and the cold weather group. I got it for $46,435 from my local dealer before tax title tag which should bring it to right around $50 when its all said and done.

  • (2) keys (someone here seems to have been shorted)
  • Owner's manual (glovebox wrapped in plastic)
  • Floor mats (if you ordered)
  • I asked my dealer to make sure they don't add any pin stripes, logos, decals, or similar stuff some places like to add.
Sure others have more...

? Does dual top, second top come assembled, or should we expect to put it together (stuffed in a box of parts)?
? Read something about windsield tie downs and electrical components with HD group?

Because it's a soft top I can't in good conscience recommend a car wash, but finding some way to dump large quantities of water on it to make sure it doesn't leak seems like a good idea.

Make sure you get the toolkit. If you get the windshield tiedown straps too, be sure to let us know, since those don't seem to be available yet.

Probably just a pre-production model, but @DanW noticed the Rubicon at the Indy Auto Show didn't have red tow hooks; might as well be sure you get them.

I'd check 4H (see if it's as hard to engage as others are reporting), 4L, and your lockers. Need something other than pavement to do thorough testing, especially the lockers, and if you do test 4 wheel drive on pavement don't make any turns.

If it's an automatic, keep an eye out for transmission oil leaks. Someone got burnt by that pretty badly already.

The door hinges are trivially adjustable, so I suppose I'd check each door and make sure they seem snug when closed.

And make sure Uconnect works, and don't accept any updates for a while. The most recent patch apparently has sent many systems into a series of recurring reboots.

So, added to the general checklist: rear view camera.

and that reminds me, someone had trouble with the aux switches with the tow group. Not clear to me, but it seems like you may be able to activate them and see a light even if nothing is tied in; if so, check all 4.

All good ideas, I definitely am interested in the mechanical/fit and finish items.
