imo running it in neutral wouldn't produce noise due to no load on the gears causing them to rub. id be interested to hear if your mechanic opened up the trans to see what the cause was?

I think it needs a new muffler bearing along with changing the blinker fluid. Probably wouldn't hurt to do a 5 tire rotation of the air in your tires. All should give you about approximately 126.4793576 more horsepower at the wheels as measured by a carefully fart calibrated Buttox Dyno. An SBD directly into the cold air intake will get you almost 2 additional horsepower at 1,043.2765 RPM. My brother-in-laws cousin's wife's nephew, once removed, tried this and says it works.
