Hey forum,

I have a 2023 Rubi. I put a Teraflex alpha HD tire carrier on my truck. Everything worked, the carrier is great, no complaints. Months later the backup camera went on the fritz. Sometimes blue screen, sometimes distorted image, sometimes (rarely) works as normal. Also, randomly I get a message saying the back up sensors are unavailable but have never had an issue with them working. Dealer is saying they aren't going to cover the camera because of the relocation. Is this legit? It seems far fetched that simply moving the location the camera is mounted could be justification for why the part no longer works. Appreciate your thoughts.

Yes, 100%. As far fetched as it sounds, you moved the camera from its stock mount and that essentially voided the warranty for the camera. Dealers are not going to touch anything that is not stock on the vehicle. They never have and never will. This holds true for any manufacturer. You can try another dealer and might get lucky, but don't count on it.

If it worked ok before the change then it might have got a pinched wire or something like that.

Hehe!!

If you were a tech, would you you want to work on something someone else did?
For what its worth, based on three things i read on the internet I'm pretty sure the issue is with the software or radio. I don't think the issue is the actual camera which is why I'm feeling frustration.

I had a JK on 37's w/currie dana 60's and 5.38 gears. The transfer case exploded on the highway and Jeep wouldn't warranty it. That made sense to me. Struggling a little with this one. Thanks for the insight though!

are you sure you're not my service tech?
What dave said is true. If you remount a camera if anything happens to the camera (or its wiring) no dealer is going to warranty it. That being said I don't think I've has to replace a JL backup camera, they don't go bad often.

Doesn't matter what you've read. The camera was moved from its stock location/mount onto and aftermarket mount. That voided the warranty on it.
