I have a dealer appt coming up next week. I have the dreaded 3.6 lifter/follower/cam tick. I'm bringing it in for them to check it out. I had it in for an oil change a couple weeks back. The service advisor gave it a listen and he said I should bring it in so I am.

Previously when taking it in for an appointment I'd just unmarry the Tazer (JL Mini) and then reprogram my changes when I got it back. However, A couple months ago I regeared to 4.88s. Setting everything back to stock (unmarrying) will set several errors due to the gearing change.

What am I supposed to do to not cause any scanning issues at the dealer?

If you have the security bypass cables, JScan, and a Bluetooth obd connector you could permanently mod your gateway to the features you want then when you need to disconnect Tazer you can with most features unchanged.

There will be no issue with their WiTech scanner. However, if they push any upgrade your settings might get wiped out and you may need to pay ZAuto to reset your Tazer (you can pay to have it forcibly unmarried).

I would just tell the dealer that you used a programmer to set gear size and that you decline any and all software updates. If they say they have to do one, then you work out how to unmarry, update, then marry and push the settings back.

I have always put blue painters tape on the panel above the SGW/OBD and another one blocking it off that says do not access. I then tell the service manager why. I always say don't flag me for a Tazer/tune and they always say that they don't care if it's on there.

I did remove the tune on my AMG after having some fuel system issues possibly secondary to E85 mixture. My Service Manager recommended that I burn up the mixture and put normal gas in it and return everything back to stock and bring it back. They ended up changing the entire fuel system from injectors to tank.

Since you may have an issue, I would remove it.

Just unmarry, remove the Tazer JL and reconnect the two cables at the security gateway.

IF your JL were to then go into low range, your JL would simply get an EVIC message but the JL would not go into limp mode, etc... It is unlike a JK that would have a real pissy fit if you did this.

Note.. Slim to no chance that dealership Tech would use low range, considering what you are taking the Jeep in fo.

DO after you get through this thing.... research on the forum/my past posts about having a hybrid approach... You have and enjoy the Tazer JL that is terrific and has lts of great features, but you do your gear settings with JSCAN. This way when you unmarry the Tazer JL, you do not lose your gear settings..

When your JL is hooked up to the WiTech ll your JL is lets say talking to / spilling the beans to Stellantis. With that said, even though the Service Manager says / Tech says they don't care, do not think that Stellantis will not care... especially if a pricey warranty repair is needed.

Prudent, knowledgeable, Tazer JL owner, always unmarry's the Tazer JL and reconnects the security gateway when the JL goes into the dealership Service Dept.

You may have an issue. May not. Just depends on dealer. I personally am not changing anything till warranty is done. I would take it off hope for the best

I also had my 2020 Rubicon JLU regeared to 4.88. I have been using a Tazer for 3 years. I did the re-gear 2 years ago. I always un-marry the Tazer before going to the dealer and I have never had any lights or errors after the re-gear with the Tazer removed.

I used both the front and rear lockers and 4LO after the re-gear and without the Tazer. No errors or lights.

I was under the impression a regear and/or tire change only causes the speedo to be off. I thought it takes a transfer case swap to cause 4L errors. I traded in a regeared jeep to a dealer with no errors or issues from that dealer. Told them up front and they were actually excited. Used fleet manager loved ripping it through gears.

For your issue I would un-marry it. It may matter on why your taking your Jeep in. My dealer didn't seem to care about my Tazer at all when I took the Jeep in for an A/C issue or a broken sun visor.

I knew I had to remove the Tazer before I took it in. When I got my Jeep back after the regear it was throwing ESS errors and cruise was disabled due to errors. I'm pretty sure the shop didn't properly follow the precedure for reboot of the Tazer. At that point I unmarried, remarried and reprogrammed everything and the errors went away. I thought that if I unmarryied it would trigger error lights, but if I didn't unmarry they wouldn't be able to scan for errors. Thus my perceived dilemma.

Sounds like the Jeep should be fine if I unmarry so that is what I'll do. I'll also look into a JScan to make the regear program change permanent.

Thanks!!

[conjecture] I'd be shocked if unmarrying and resetting accomplishes much. Logging is an industry standard these days in software, so the likelihood they cannot see config changes would seem low to me. The cost of storage for this type of logging would be low. I get detaching probably avoids some initial pushback. If there is an issue that needs to be replaced under warranty it seems the MMWA is saving us these days by increasing burden of proof on dealers when rejecting or proving that a modification caused the issue (sorry for run on, too lazy to fix). [/conjecture

I really wish I would have done more research into JScan before I bought the Tazer JL Mini. I ended up buying an OBDLink Mx+ so I could make permanent changes without worrying about the setting changes I made interfering with the dealer scanner. Everything arrived yesterday so I was able to unmarry the Tazer and and get JScan set up before bringing my Jeep to the dealer appt this morning.

I was surprised with having to by a license in order to make any changes. I thought you just needed the OBDLink and security gateway bypass cable and JScan would be good to go. But even with buying 3 licenses plus the OBDLink and SGW bypass, its still considerablly cheaper than a Tazer. And you can do SOOOO much more with JScan.

I'll keep the Tazer for the live functions, primarily ESS defeat, but all actual config changes will be done with JScan. I could have gotten by with just a Tazer JL Lite.
