It's too bad there isn't amble storage in the cargo area under the floor to store the windows. :(

Let me see if I follow the logic here:

FCA faces a problem with their plastic windows easily scratching.

Their solution isn't to build a better mousetrap or provide a mechanism for their storage for free, but to charge for it?

"I'm sorry sir, but properly working brakes on this vehicle..that will be $70 extra..."

Believe it or not, they tried to design that on multiple occasions. The tough part is that the rear window is as wide, if not wider, than the floor of the trunk. There was also a short-lived design effort to make the windows store under the rear seats of 2-door wranglers, but they couldn't make that work either.

I won't pretend to understand the engineering and regulatory efforts that go into the jeep windows - I'll just assume it's way more difficult than most of us can even understand.

Thanks for the explanation Parker. By no means do I mean shoot its messenger (you), but FCA?

Complexity notwithstanding, there's been a decade to work on this vehicle. I would not be the least bit surprise if a year from now there's a preliminary team formed at FCA to start talking about the "JM."

I just called my dealership and this was the feedback I got:
a) "Jeep specifically says they don't recommend rolling the soft top windows. A crease in the plastic is irreparable and could lead to cracks and tears when the temperature gets very hot or very cold."

b) "the Jeep storage bag is very high quality and has ample padding. You can stack up to 150 lbs on top of the bag without damaging the windows inside.

c) "You actually don't need the storage bag unless you plan on leave the windows somewhere outside the car. The trunk has a convenient way to hang the windows in the trunk."
Would love to know how to conveniently hang them.... I had to leave them in the garage... but that won’t be the case in long rides!

Take a look at the video I posted earlier in the thread. It doesn't quite show how to do it, but the guy says, "And the window hangs right here perfectly" and you see him load it in briefly.

Yes thank you! I noticed in a later post you had.... and I tried yesterday. But I think it might work great if you don’t have the subwoofer there....

Thank you for responding again!

I laugh when I read this stuff. Windows on soft tops, if you run them year round, are good for about 5 years. You could run them longer, but they get very cloudy and scratchy. I've had mine on my JK in the warm months only and they are 10.5 years old now. They still are serviceable.

We're all fussing over how to make these plastic windows last, but you must realize they aren't meant to last as long as the Jeep. They are made to be replaced, at some point.

If you are going to drive a Jeep with a soft top, you need to understand the limitations of those windows. I'll save my money on those fancy bags for replacement windows after about 5 years. Don't get too bent out of shape if you scratch them. It is a Jeep thing. If it bothers you too much, get a hard top or auto top.

Neither - it doesn't lay down as flat when the upper frame is disconnected.

Secondly, the locking mechanism works whether or not the frame is disconnected. Still, it only prevents the compressed top from raising up over 6-12". Under that, depending on vehicle speed, wind speed, road conditions, etc, the compressed top can bounce around an inch or so.

Being the typical, anally retentive Jeep owner, I realized that while a single tie in the middle works well to compress the top, two tie-downs looped through the built-in tie-down anchors achieves two things: compresses the top to achieve maximum visibility, and eliminated all bounce. Here's my set-up:

And yes, if you're really psycho, you can tuck the end straps under the cover hatch to achieve the maximum "ship shape" look. :movember: Ask me how I know: I did just that after I took this photo.
I like that! Great idea!

Here is my solution for the windows

My JLU Sahara came with no soft top just the hard-top, so I found a member here on the forum with a Soft Top for sale and just purchased it. Now I am in Washington and will not even install the soft top until next April/May. Storing the top and frame itself is easy on the wall of the Garage, however the windows are a bigger challenge. In many of the popular Jeep part sites/stores they only obvious option was the Mopar window bag at $170 which is way overpriced for a canvas bag and even then with the windows stored in it it is too big to fit in the back of the Jeep.

After looking at other options like various JK bags I found this on on Amazon for $49, I figured what the hell I will give it a try.

The bag arrived and I was impressed with the quality and the size assuming the windows fit, actually fits like a glove in the cargo area of the JLU.

Below are pictures of the windows in the bag:

Second side window

For the back window I removed the bottom bar and then Used a light weight packing blanket rolled up with a couple straps, and since the window was too long I used the rolled up blanket for support so I could fold the back window without it creasing.

Here it is all windows stored in the bag, as you can see it fits perfectly in the cargo area or can be hung or stood up

There is even room left over for other items like a Bikini top or ???

I have since purchased the Diabolical Slipstream security enclosure that the window bag fits into perfectly. This allows me to lock the windows and and anything else that fits, this is a large lockable storage enclosure.
