Ok. I know the switch on the right is to dim the dash. Any of you JL folks know what the one on the left does? The manual says it’s for ambient light, but I can see that it does anything. My local Jeep dealer was no help. Ideas?

My Rubicon doesn't have that. Do you have lights in your door handles, cup holders or maybe some small lights shining down from over the rear view mirror? I would call those ambient lights. Maybe there are some floor lights too. All these lights pretty dim to start with, to set the mood...

Depends on your trim package I think. My last rig didn’t have anything but the current one has lights in the foot well, cup holders, etc. check it at night

I think on mine the only light I could really tell is the one inside the center console.

It controls the ambient lighting in the footwell around your feet. Comes in handy if you drop something on the floor at night.

I have the same issue with my 2020 JLU. No lighting visible in the floors. Not sure if this is for an option not included in my package! Or do I need to check fuses?

Did you ever get a definitive answer??

This question has been making the rounds since I joined the forum in 2020. The consensus is that the left-side rheostat controls trim-dependent ambient lighting. While present in my Sport, that particular switch doesn't provide any discernable function.

Note that said rheostat was phased out maybe two model years ago. Current production Jeeps will have just the one (on the right) to control dashboard illumination and the interior light on the roll bar.

I did not. Still wondering. My Jeep dealer didn't know either.
