Dangerous Situations

Hello folks,

Just wondering how many folks have actually been put into a dangerous situation due to an issue with their Jeep or stranded due to their jeep not starting? We just purchased a 2019 for our daughter and I have some concerns with her driving it to school by herself. I know that any vehicle can break down but there seems to be a lot of 'chatter' with the JLs. We did a good amount of research, a good portion of it via this forum and did check a number of items before taking delivery that have been identified here. I understand that forums are leveraged by folks that are having issues but I'm also very active in other car forums in which there does not seem to be as much concerns around quality issues.

Difficult topic to quantify. Lots of folks (including myself) have had no problem with starting or being left stranded. It has never put me into a dangerous situation. A majority of quality issues have to do with non-critical components. Most of the safety related issues were cleaned up very quickly (bad frame welds for example). I personally don't see it as any more or less of a risk than other vehicles out there. In many ways it offers a level of safety greater than less capable vehicles (especially during extreme rain events... though in CA we don't get many of those). But with a better view of the road and a very solid and strong vehicle the Jeep is a great choice. There are some astonishing stories of those in accidents (caused buy others, not the Jeep) who feel they are alive because of the new design of the JL.

Like any vehicle be aware of what the Jeep is telling you, keep it maintained, and it should server you and your daughter well for many years.

You will find folks who have had bad experiences with a different view than mine. Some really got the short straw with their Jeep. But personally I would have zero concern letting the Jeep take care of my loved ones!

On any vehicle forum you will find lots of threads about issues. People don’t flock to forums to report how trouble free their new purchase is.

Your daughter is riding in a brand-spanking-new vehicle... she’s a hell of a lot safer than the majority of us were at that age. I’m a father of three. I get it. You’re way over thinking this one, though... if you want to keep yourself awake at night think about the vehicles (and drivers) she’s sharing the road with and not her new JL. ;-)

thought I had the rights high enough to straddle, turned out not to be the case. slid right down.

In all seriousness, zero mechanical issues and I've been pretty rough on it. the steering was stupid bad but a few quality parts later things are well (steersmarts & Falcon stabilizer). My other Jeep is a JK and that's been perfect as well.

a few scuffs on the flares.
bent rails (that sucked anyways) now replaced with Rock Hard Patriots.

I however felt like a dumbass.

We had something similar happen on a trip last weekend (not exactly that or that bad). The driver was really embarrassed.

I told him - that was the highlight of the trip! Just remember all the stories come from those times.

I switched back to a Jeep after getting fed up with reliability problems with Mercedes and BMW. It took a while but my wife had enough with her M4 and when the lease ended, I bought her a Gladiator.

I had lots of Jeep products when I was young and have been driving wranglers since 2011. I tend to drive them 35 to 55 thousand miles. My current 18 JLUR has 31k miles, and since the residuals stay relatively strong, I’ll probably trade it in for a 2020 Diesel. All 5 of my last Wranglers have been relatively trouble free.

For piece of mind, I had a vendor that travelled the US in a JKU Sport. He had over 300k trouble free miles on it and loved it!

You made a good choice in vehicles!

I have owned mine since January and the only thing that has stopped working for me is the radio, it sucks but has not left me stranded.

Starter failed for no reason in the middle of the night(2.0), 9000 miles on the odometer, luckily I was visiting a friend and was parked downstairs by his apartment instead of up a mountain somewhere for my next trip.

Not dangerous but frustrating, possibly a month of planned vacation down the drain since no parts are available and I’m now playing tennis between the dealer and FCA Canada customer care which gives little care about its actual customers.

Miss my Jeep though, I’m saddened every time I see a Jeep on the road (which is like every 5 minutes) and I can’t give them a Jeep wave either.
