So my D30 seems to be bent somewhere. I'll be keeping my eye out but if anyone sees any great deals on a D44 for sale if you could let me know.

Ideally a Sport takeoff from a JT that is already geared to 4.88 would be awesome but unlikely. I'm hoping to find something before Moab in May but otherwise don't have to rush to do it now that it's not my daily driver. Wheeling is on hold though so I don't cause anymore damage.

I'm not ruling that out. If I find a Rubi D44 I'd pull the air locker line out of the front and wire up the locker to my current switch.
If I remember correctly I think I bought my d44 front from adventure off road in Huntington Beach Jeep do 2700 and they covered shipping

What about the place where you got your engine? I'm sure some that did the engine swap, did 1 tons also.

Curious what is bend on the current one ?
How much work did you put in it to get bend ?
I recall JK where not that great but I'm under the impression JL are way better in that regard.

It's something with the axle. Maybe the tube, maybe the C.

As for why it bent most likely strain on the D30 from heavy 37" tires. With upgraded steering, knuckles and balljoints the axle is the weak point that is going to take on the extra stress in a hit. My Jeep gets wheeled pretty hard and last week was the final straw. The left driver side took so much weight that it must have bent so much to cause my steering wheel to go off center by 30 degrees. So yeah, this axle is done - not worth fixing and not worth wheeling with it any more and risk wearing out ball joints, fighting the passenger pull OR creating more uneven wear on the tires.

There's a reason everyone says to not put 37s on a D30 and then drive it over boulders. 🤣

She found a gladiator sport front locally for $2k
Plus gears, plus swapping the locker/labor.

If she gets a rubi front, then she will need a rubi rear due to the extra width. Then use the oem lockers or swap out for her air lockers. Then still need to do gears, on both axles… this is the $$$ route.

Or, just go with a ud44 or prorock front axle in narrow width to match her narrow d44 rear. But thats super expensive as well.

The gladiator sport front axle option is by far the most cost effective route. That $2k axle plus gears/locker swap, $3k or so… if she installs it herself.

Every other option will be $6-7k plus easy.

Probably not what you're looking for, but I have the D30 & D44 (w/ LSD) off my 21 JLU Willys that I'm trying to part with.

I'm guessing you mean you have a D30 for the front. Appreciate it but I won't be putting a D30 back on this Jeep any time soon. 🤣

When did they offer 4.88s as an option in the XR? I know you could get them in a standard Rubi but XRs would only come with 4.56s.

I always thought it was dumb you could get 4.88s in a standard rubi and not an XR.
