Custom paint doesn't necessarily mean screaming skulls, gaudy pinstripes or bad murals. Too me it means a more detail oriented finish and a high level of skill used in the application. A solid color, or a complicated tri-coat. Anything from white to the House of Kolor paints.

I don’t see an realistic return on investment for custom painting a brand new car.
I agree on that. But an older paid for Jeep in great condition, other than the paint, probably deserves better paint than the local Maaco or Earl Scheib can do.

Ha mine is both wrapped and plasti dipped. I really wanted bikini but the only Wrangler I could find at the time with everything I wanted was billet silver. I looked into re-painting and it was cheaper for a really good wrap job so I did that instead. The body is wrapped and all the hinges are plasti-dipped. It's been 3 years so far and it's held up great.
Nothing wrong with that, I'm just not a fan myself!

A vehicle that has ~200k produced annually is not going to be anywhere close to be a collectors item. To get a paint job as good as OEM (even with Jeep paint flaws) is going to cost a lot of money. If you want to change the color most people just go with wraps.

I don’t see an realistic return on investment for custom painting a brand new car.
Let's be honest, 99.9% of the time any kind of automotive purchase is not an investment. A custom paint job would be purely for fun and enjoyment. Just like all vehicle modifications, when you do them understand you're throwing money into a black hole and don't expect to see it again ?

I actually considered it because I really want an orange Jeep but they aren't offering it now. But I don't think it's worth the cost and honestly, I've fallen in love with Snazzberry with the Rubicon trim. But I think it's a great idea (or wrap) for people to get the color they want or to do something fun.

Nope. If anything I'll get it wrapped or rhino lined at some point, but not painted. You gotta take care of paint.

I seriously considered it when I was ordering - I'm a sucker for a subdued blue color and was really bummed to find that "Rhino" from the later JK years had been discontinued. GM does a really fantastic job with their blue/steel colors. Sting Gray is too flat and gray for me.

Rivian Blue and the Area 51 Bronco colors are really nice, as well.

However, it's $$$ and essentially a non-functional cost. Went with Hydro and it's definitely grown on me. Still a little more "loud" than I would prefer, personally.

The only custom paint job I would do on a Jeep would be on an older one that had to be repainted due to factory paint condition being crap; otherwise factory is always preferred.

I definitely would if it were a bit more affordable. I just wish car makers had more colors to choose from aside from the normal dark red, crap blue, and 20 shades of gray. (I like Jeep red and ford's basic red). I like that Jeep rotates some colors but give us more options, heck, give us more premium options ($1000 add-ons). I'd gladly pay $1000 to choose from a pool of 15 or so colors that aren't all shades of white/gray/black.

+1 on having more options, would be nice. I'm surprised there isn't since most automotive plants utilize robotics in their paint departments anyways. Create a routine for cleanout between colors, get flow rates and speeds dialed in per color, maybe a PID loop or two if it's even needed for adjusting certain parameters and I would think if they batch colors together there isn't a reason why they couldn't offer 50 different colors to choose from.

but what do I know, I've never programmed any robotic applications for painting, so I'm probably over simplifying the whole thing.

I am no expert but my guess is that it is more about fast turnover and profit than the ability to diversify the premium color selections. I wish they would poll their customers and jeep groups like this one for input about what colors people want to see. Allow a .jpeg upload of a sample of color or custom color combos with customer driven interior choices. Like the lovely natural tan/brown leather interior in the Cherokees being available as an option for the Rubicon.
