hey Guys,

New to the forum. Picked up a rubicon JLU. Have loved it but have come across issues that I wanted to share.

First issue: the USB connector in the Center console is glitchy. Phone got disconnected. Wouldn’t provide a connection for a while. Made an appointment with the dealership and next day was working fine so couldn’t replicate the problem. Waiting for it to come back to get fixed properly.

Second issue and most annoying is this creaking sound coming from the top of the pillar on the drivers side so I hear it in my left ear every time I accelerate or decelerate and the body flexes. Just came back from the dealership and they took everything apart and couldn’t fix it. Made an appointment for me with the body shop which I’m not too happy to hear for a vehicle that has 2k km on it. 1200 miles.

Anyone think sending to the body shop is problematic?

That aside, looking to get some 37s and rock this rubi all the way!

Same console USB issue. They have a firmware update to solve it.

For the pillars creaking the dealership could not find it so I filled the pillars with expanding spray foam and no more noise.

Any chance you could get us some photos of where you sprayed it? I’m having the same issue on my JLUR that was 265 miles on it and is 3 weeks old. Thanks!!!!

The OP got his creaking resolved by going through a body shop in Canada. They discovered that one of the many metal plates on top of the B pillar was misaligned causing it to rub against other metal pieces. The body shop was able to realign the plate and his creaking is gone.
My creak is back too. I’ve been back to the dealer twice and they can’t figure it out. I have 2 appointments booked with 2 other dealers.

I’m glad to see there was a pretty hefty thread started about this. Not sure why I didn’t get notifications.

I’m going to try that hardtop bolt and see if it fixes my issue too.

@JeepCares this seems to be a very annoying issue for a lot of people. All from the same spot. Please inform your dealers!

Hi CreativeName,
We certainly understand why this may be concerning. Unfortunately, our team is not authorized to work with customers outside of the United States. I have the dreaded creak. Mine is on the passenger side. I just read through all 7 pages. My JLUR is 1yr and 1 day old. I ordered the dual top package just developed the creak the past few weeks with the soft top on. I will post more as I research the fix. This is very disheartening that Jeep Knows about this but nothing has been done in the way of a dealer or customer service notice

I have a suggestion that probably helps
The friction generates heat .. I think maybe this device helps to detect the area of the squeak which will of course be warmer!

So i actually created this creak by accident. I noticed the drivers torx windshield bolt near the sun visor was completely loose when offroading one day. Once i tightened it the creaking started immediately after and even if i loosened it the creaking still continued.. I had to loosen the windshield bolt, put a bolt in the roll cage like mentioned in this thread then tighten the windshield bolt. Havent had a creak since

Thanks to this thread!!
I swapped out my Hardtop for my softop yesterday. I've been hunting this damn creeking noise by my ear for hours in this 105° heat! It wasn't there with the Hardtop on. I was going bonkers removing everything I put on.

I put in the front upper Hardtop bolts and cranked them down.

Back to blissful silence.

Hey guys. I just got this issue a few days ago when putting on the PST. I am an 18 jlus. I’ve spent hours trying to track this down so I am excited to go out in the hard top bolts, check drain tube location, and do some silicone spray. This is maddening.

I appreciate everyone’s pictures and sharing ideas from no doubt dozens of hours of tracking this crap down. I’ve probably spent 4 myself this weekend.

okay will update this evening. Thanks!

Well what do you know. Reinstalled and tightened the hard top front d/s bolt at lunch as tight as I could get it. The noise is gone!

I may be hearing phantom noises in my head, maybe 5% still there, but I am confident that when I lubricate between the plates tonight and also install and tighten the p/s bolt... it will be gone.

...Or else I will go see a psychiatrist.

Good luck to everyone else fighting the noises. (I had the rear tailgate cackle over curbs for 2 years until it turned out to be a very easy fix. If you have that too, let me know )

Chasing all of the wrangler noises keeps me young.

Figured I'd post an update on here. Since I originally installed the bolt fix in 2018, we have not had ANY creaking come back in about 18k miles....problem solved!

First, this has been a great thread (all 7 pages) and I'm thankful for all the due diligence you folks have done. Very impressive!

However, there is one angle that I believe hasn't been covered here: the One-Touch Sky Top. I have a 2020 JLUR w/the sky top and have the same creaking sound coming from the passenger side B pillar whenever I accelerate, break, or more generally, whenever the body is torqued. This has happened from day 1 with only 3 miles on the Jeep. From what I've read here, it sounds like exactly the same issue and it does seem to get worse as temps cool.

So forgive me for asking having never owned a hard top before (only soft tops in the past going back more than 2 decades), but exactly which bolt (or bolt hole) are we talking about here? Pics would be great. From the pics posted in this thread, the JL users manual (hard top section), hard top removal YouTube videos, etc, it appears that the hard top bolts in question are installed/removed from the TOP SIDE. Well, the sky top owners can't remove the top, and I believe the sky top sides cover the area in question. I welcome any advice.

I have already fixed an even more annoying sky top open rattle based on another thread in this forum, so I'm confident that someone here has the solution.
