Cracked Windshield Club

About 1000 miles and the wife gets a rock kicked up by the car in front her yesterday a few miles from home. Called Safelite and got it in there 20mins later, sealed up, hopefully it holds up. Decreased my deductible on the Jeep to make sure I never pay more then $100 for a new windshield replacement.

So my dealer is selling an "appearance package" for $560. 7 years. Covers, dents, dings, glass and interior damage with no deductible. Sounds worth it alone for the glass.

Our JLU has now had two chips within one week of buying it. The first chip came on the 2nd day. We were driving on a gravel road and the truck in front of us kicked up a rock. I was simply too close.

The 2nd chip happened a couple of days ago on the highway. Again a truck in front of us kicked up another rock.

I'm thinking 2 car lengths simply isn't enough following distance. I have gone 30 years without a single chip on my windshield and now I've got two in a week. I guess I was very much due.

Fortunately, because my wife tends to attract rocks like a magnet, I keep tape in the car to help keep the crack from spreading. I tends to work rather well.

Make sure you read the fine print and make sure it covers replacing with OEM windshields, if you like the grill and the little Jeepers crawling around the glass... Plain glass is much cheaper to replace it with.

2200 kilometers and I've just joined the club. Didn't even hear the impact just saw the crack appear.

It this a common issue with Jks too? Cracking and getting chips in the windshield?

Replaced one JKU windshield twice. Replaced the other JKU once. This was over a five year period, and we live in Texas.

Wife joined the club Saturday. Nice sized peck hole and 6" crack. We had the extra Platinum insurance for roadside assistance, glass REPAIR, dent repair, tires and wheels. Safelite unable to fix and gave wife a quote of $849 for Jeep glass.

I joined the club last night, about 700 miles. On the highway, heard a medium rock hit and had an instant 6”+ crack at the bottom but directly in front of me. Interesting, the crack only traveled north from the impact point, it didn’t move towards the edge of the windshield. The impact point/chip is very small.

Maybe this is a stupid question, is this covered by the warranty? I think I have insurance but should I take it to the dealership?

No, not covered by warranty. Call your insurance about your glass coverage. I'd have Safelite Auto Glass do the replacement.

Thanks for confirming, that’s what I was thinking. Did you have the “audio” windshield? I want to make sure I get the correct part.
